OK im getting a 54L tank,
have thought carefully and come up with this...

2Butterfly cichlids upto 4"

4-5 Harlequinn Rasboras

2-3 pygmy or peppered Corys

OBVIOUSLY im waiting for it to cycle for 5 weeks or more *sigh*
But hoping to get some plants (ive posted in plant forum curious on what type)

have kept guppies for a year now and wanna get another tank going....
i always said id never let the fish take over....
i lied!
haha
anyhoooo
help and suggestions guys n gals

Any chance of a scientific name on the "butterfly cichlid", when I googled that it came up with around 6 different species.

The other fish sound fine depending on which cichlid you are interested in. :good:

i have the same kind of fish in my tank plus a few other types of tetras and khulis. they all do fine.

even though they are cichlids rams should be fine, if you read up on them then they are often kept with corys and tetras etc and they are very peaceful. i have 2 blue rams and apart from them moving the corys out of the way at the moment for breeding (i presume) they dont chase or hurt them. maybe 4 peppered corys would work better than 2 or 3 as they would feel a bit happier or with the same with the pygmys

Cheers ive read loads but i have read differnet things on each thing i read so though id check....
how many roughly can i keep

im not sure how many you could keep but i would have thought that 4 would be ok as you would have fish in the tank that occupy other areas, such as the rasboras being mid to top swimmers and the german blue rams being bottom to mid swimmers. depends on how many other fish you would have but i'd say that the ones you've mentioned before dont get big so they shouldnt out grow the tank aslong as you dont get too many :)

didnt think there would be any problems well im off to get that tank.....
lets just hope the offer is still on or i can forget my rams :(
really hyped up got plans of putting sand and a few peices of wood in the bottom!
rocks and a cave :)

not looking forward to the wait of cycling but its got to be done :(

By butterfly cichlid, do you mean african butterfly fish? If so then your harlequin rosarbas will be food for them so I'd say no the stocking is not good.

This is what I found upon search for a butterfly cichlid on google.

I don't think that's a good idea if it's the fish you're thinking of as it's an african cichlid, and your little harlequins will ,yet again, be food.

I would stick with a pair, (meaning a male and a female that have paired off for breeding), rather than just two of the same species. Many LFS sell them as pairs, if not, the best thing to do is to get several juveniles and wait for them to pair off, make sure your LFS will take back extras. These guys are also very sensitive to water conditions, so I'd wait several months after your fishless cycling is done (so they would be the last fish added) to allow your tank to mature.
