I'm intersted in possible breeding my Bristlenose Pleco's but I have read that Pleco's need a PH of about 7.0 and the PH of my water is about 8.0... How can I naturally buffer the PH lower and keep it that way? Or would it be ok to just try and breed them in the 8.0 PH water?

Thanks for any advice!

Bristlenose are very adaptive (is that even a word? lol ;)).... many people have bred them in a higher PH than what is 'stated' as desired. I would probably leave the PH well alone if it's stable, a swinging PH can be more detrimental than a PH which is considered incorrect.

Goodluck with the breeding :)

+1

Messing with PH is a recipe for disaster

My pH is 8 and I've had a pair of BNP breed so it is possible. If you get them at a young enough age from the pet store and they mature in a  certain pH they become accustomed to it. (And since most places sell 1 inch long juvi BNP chances are you`ll find them young enough and they`ll adapt to your pH as they mature)
