I have never bred my fish before, but ive noticed that my guppy is pregnant. I have done some internet research and want to set up a breeding tank. However, I wasn't sure if this required the long process of setting up the biological filter and so on... I have seen videos of people just setting tanks up without filters which I thought must be wrong. Any help with exactly how to set up the tank would be greatly appreciated... Thanks

You will need a mature tank with a mature filter just the same as the one you have now in order for any fish to survive!

You will need a mature tank with a mature filter just the same as the one you have now in order for any fish to survive!

Which is absolutely right..... BUT!!... and be careful..... They can be as prolific in your mother tank as it could be anywhere else....If sufficient (floating) plants and hiding space is provided for the fry, you'll soon be inundated with numerous fry.... They will just continue endlessly if the first batch survives.... (lookit some of my previous posts on this subject)

do you know how i shud go about setting the tank up for breeding once i have cycled everything... e.g. what filter to use, temperature etc. thanks again

My personal opinion would be don't. Let them breed in the main tank and let nature take its course. Watching guppies breed and saving the offspring is fun, until you realise you have hundreds of the things, and no way to get rid of them.

This of course is just my opinion and you are, of course, welcome to ignore it.

I only some times allow the fry to survive in the breeding tank as i would prefer for nature to take its cause.
