Hey just a bit of advise and whether they would be ok with a blue acara, geophagus, female nic and rotkeil severum?

Hi one of my favorites, been toying with keeping some in place of my geophagus with my Severus and Nic haha.

well i was reading pfk the other day and they suggested them with discus and in the discus tank the guy has them with these geophagus sp lago cuipeau and they look amazing but i can't find anything on them, but yer wildwoods have both the fish but at 24.95 each and i would want to get a pair of their geophagus megasema also so thats £100... hmm maybe ask for xmas i think.

I looked into them for a bit when Wills recommended them to me and theres some good info on here

Dont get the cupids from wildwoods they are massivly over priced, but they do have B.Wavereni which IMO are actually nicer as adults for £10 each. They are both Biotodoma species just differenet variants.

thanks guys for the responses, i'm thinking this will be my tank stocking after a couple of weeks:

Threadfin acara
blue acara
2 biotodoma cupido / Biotodoma wavrini (which ever i can get cheapest)
2 geophagus proximus
2 geophagus megasema
red shoulder severum
female nic
5 clown loaches
galaxy plec
flash plec

How does that stocking sound?

I hope you've got a big tank :p

lets be realistic tho, i mean a clown loach tanks ages to grow and they are currently around 3 inches. The threadfin acara maybe an issue as i have read reports of being pretty aggressive so the threadfin is a maybe. But i see no issues with four geophagus, female nic, and cupidos. Do you?

I wasnt picking an issue, was just saying hope you have a big tank.

As for the clown loach i wouldnt house fish that 'can' get big, no matter how long it takes them to grow, if the tank size is questionable for their adult length. When i started the hobby i bought 2 clown loach, after 2 years they were still under 3", my grand father bought some a few months before mine and his were just under 5" after 2 years. He had a 10 YO clown loach that was just over 12" also. They are big regardless how slow they grow and i'd be reluctant to house a fish that will outgrow a tank on the basis of how slow a grower he is.

Its a nice stocking for your tank, i like it. Just hope you have a tank big enough for their adult sizes :) That is all.

yer i see what your saying well the tank is a juwel rio 400 is that big enough or would i need something around 6 foot?

Its a similar stock to my tank, which is a 240 at the moment but a 125g is coming soon probs at xmas. If it were me I would drop the threadfin and up the cupids/wavereni to 4/5 they do better in groups. Although its upto you if you do that or drop one of the other geos to do more of the cupids as threadfins and cupids are found in the wild naturally and I have heard of them doing well in tanks together but threadfins are often nasty to big geophagus. Also the rio 400 is a 5x2x2 (more a less?) isnt it? If so IMO thats a decent size for Clowns? Although when/if they get to adult size that would perhaps push the tank over the edge stock wise.

One thought though, no dithers? I would maybe add a school of larger tetras in there just to help out anything like lemons, xrays, flame, bleeding hearts or columbians would work well.

a 400 is 5' x 20" x 2' so around 400- 450 liters. Well i saw an add on AC for a group of 4 cupids for £37. As far as dithers go i was thinking tiger barbs, i currently have 5 in my other tank which i can move over. But i do really like rummy nose tetras would these guys be ok?

The stocking looks good to me. Although i think the clowns are pushing your luck a little. I think it would be best to sell them while there small and maybe replace them with a small group of cats like hoplos.

Yeah agree with Kinzo but that might be my south american fish only rules kicking in haha I would maybe go for pictus?

Tigerbarbs would be okay but not really my first choice, in this tank you need dither fish not target fish so maybe they are a bit too nippy and zippy for this tank? Rummynose are a little small and a bit too torpedo shaped really what about flamebacked bleeding heart tetras or flame tetras/von rio tetras (same fish) if you like the red? Emperor tetras would be good as well.

tbh i think the stocking is pushing it for a 400-450L, and is something i am finding atm with my own 472L tank and a similar stocking now that everything is starting to get to a decent size.

Personally I would go as far as losing 2 of the geophagus and the threadfin, (and maybe swapping the other geos for a slightly larger group of the smaller growing species like tapajos) and then add a good sized group of dithers like Colombians or Buenos Airies Tetras
