I have a 100 litre tank, foot print 80cm x 30cm. My tank is on a plastic stand which goes all the way round the tanks bottom edge, holding it off the table.

What I'd like to know is if I stick a rock in it, about the size of an american football, would this put too much pressure on that one area of the glass bottom leading to a crack?

If so, is there any way round this apart from getting a fake rock?

My tank is built the same way, and I've kept it full of live rock back when it was a marine tank, but it's a bigger tank with probably thicker glass so I dunno.

You could cut a suitable piece of plastic egg crate or styrofoam and place it between the rock and the glass to distribute the weight more evenly. Or if the rock is flat in shape, you can just trust the substrate to cushion its weight.
