Betta With Gourami?

Maybe its a Paradise fish? Those are not the markings or body shape of a gourami, though it's extremely hard to tell.
 
In either case the betta's fins will be nipped and potentially killed.

The betta and this fish have been separated already. So both fish should be fine.

The next logical step is getting better pictures.

it doeesnt look like an oplne maybe a choclate gourami?

The fins are too misshapen to be an opaline. I'm having a staring battle with mine right now and him and the picture don't look anything alike.
 
Chocolate is possible, but that's a pretty rare fish to be just thrown in mistakenly.

well check out the african leaf fish it might be that.

Well my friend came. And he coupdnt figure what fish it is either. But we kinda have a theory that is probably off... he says that this gourami female and male convict zebra cichlid got all lovy dovy. And that later on the gourami had babies!!!! Very unlikely. But well we cant figure whay it is

I forgot to put something else. He said that the gourami was defenetly the mom. And it was the only fry to survive.

Well, does this fish come to the surface for air now and then like a Gourami or Betta would?

It does every once in a while.

Maybe what the fish is displaying are stress markings. I guess time will tell as he settles in with you and a more accurate identification can be made then!
