Hello,

I want to keep a male Betta and am currently looking at tank options.

I like the look of the Fluval Chi (http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/aquariums/fluval/fluval-nano-aquariums/fluval-chi-aquariums/all-products.html). I've read about some Bettas trying to jump out from open top tanks like these, but lids are available too. Would the 19L be adequate, or would the 25L be more suited?

Another option would be the Reef One biOrd Flow 30L (http://www.reef-one.com/products/product-detail/biorb-flow-30) although, they do seem very pricey.

The other option would be something small and simple like this (http://www.petsathome.com/shop/petite-hexagon-aquarium-by-clearseal-(available-in-store-only)-36899) however, the aesthetics aren't quite as nice as the Fluval or Reef One.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

how do you make em??? i would be very interested to know.

and i suggest the biorb thingy, my friend has one with a betta in it, he says its very unique.

i make them using natural spanish slate (new) and theyre held together with everflex aquamate aquarium grade sealant with a 6mm thick glass panel on the front and led lighting on the lid which can be dimmed down via the power supply
prices vary depending on the size

ohhh okay, im going to try to make my own too!! ^.^

The BiOrb looks nice, though it's extremely pricey for what it is. From my own experience with bettas in Biorbs, the ceramic media (for which there is no other substrate option in BiOrbs) is very coarse and it tore my bettas lovely fins to shreds. Though he has recently been moved into his new tank, he hasn't recovered from the damage. The filtration isn't too great either and it can be difficult/fiddly to access, especially if you have decor around it.

As for the Chi, after keeping my betta in 28L, I would prefer the 25L option as I find around 30L a nice size for a betta. I would expect the lid to be essential as bettas surely are jumpers, though the moving water on top, I would imagine, would prevent the betta from making bubble nests. They are also relatively pricey, around £60 and £80 respectively for the 19L and 25L versions. I have heard bad reviews about the lighting and filtration, though, and from what I've heard, I think you'd struggle to grow any live plants in there.

The last link wouldn't work for me, but I personally would go for something like the Aquastart 320, also available at pets at home like the one in the last link from what I could see. I have it for my betta and it's a great size for him. I believe I bought mine for £50 (the cheapest of all 3 tanks mentioned) and they do not come with undergravel filters like they usually do, but rather with a small internal filter, which I believe to be far better than an UGF as it allows you to have other substrates, eg sand like myself. The lighting isn't half bad either and the tank appears very well lit, which is more than can be said compared to the BiOrb (not the best lighting) and the Chi (for which I have heard poor reviews, as mentioned earlier). The tank in general, I find, is far more practical than others such as the Chi and the Flow, while aesthetics (for which the Chi and BiOrb seem to be more designed towards) are taken care of too. I belive PaH also do a white version of the tank which is not available elsewhere.
