Hi,

I am wondering what corals would be OK to keep for a beginner with a 45L nano tank and an 18w white and actinic blue florescent light?

AK55 - you replied to my post about upgrading to MH lighting. I now have a fire fish in my tank, so I couldn't fit a MH light as the tank needs to be covered with glass to prevent him from jumping out. So,I am thinking of fitting another solaris 18w white & actinic light. The specs on the light are: -

"Here's the spiel for the lamp: -

"REPLACEMENT LAMP FOR SOLARIS MARINE

18 watt for Cubo 30
Replacement lamp for Wave Solaris lighting system.
10.000°K + actinic Blue. Specific for marine aquarium. Special lamp with two colors: white and blue.
Optimal spectrum and colouration for the marine version."

Questions: -

1) with just one lamp (as I currently have) what corals could I keep?

2) if I had another lamp, so 2 x 18 watt lamps - what corals could I keep?

I know the WPG rule is old hat, but if I had two of these on my tank I'd have over 3 WPG. I am not sure if that means anything.

I would like an elegance / leather toadstool coral (something that the clownfish may like), perhaps some zooanthids and some pulsing xenia. I also like ricordea and the mushroom corals, plate corals and closed brain corals.

I have phyto and a separate copepod / rotifier culture for if any corals need plankton. And I am doing about a 25% weekly water change.

As always, any advice is appreciated!

best to try cheap frags. Id get the 2nd light if you can anyway. Then you should be ok for soft coralssuch as the taodstool, zoas, xeinia
