bamboo in the tank??

hi

a friend gave me the idea of using little bamboo sticks inside of my tank, I was thinking that I might use some to put in front of the filter to cover it, so I was wondering if anyone has tried this and if this plant is OK with being completely underwater

i've seen quite a lot of tanks with bamboo in them in the aquarium pictures forum on this site - looks neat and seems to be safe.
