Baby Rotkeil Serverum Diary. Hatched 4/3/10

Dont be silly, this isnt your fault, your great with your fish, spend ages looking after them. I know its hard, I lost an entire tank of T>Aureus with a boiling heater, was completely gutted, then lost the parents (you may remember) and felt the same as you. Currently going thru it again with thinking sell the fish, the tanks the lot because it would make life easier and ease some money worries, but Im resisting making a snap decision on it, because its likely something I would regret in the future.

So take a deep breath, have a cuppa and remember your doing a brilliant job and I know how well you look after all your pets, not just your fish.

LOL You are right as ever hun, had a brew and a fag and calmed down now, I have just left the other tank in the conservatory, cant face emptying and cleaning it out but just went to let the dogs out and spotted a single little guy wriggling through the bodies, I scooped him up in my hand and ran to the kitchen with him, he is really swimming well in the other tank, so thats 28 :)

Fingers crossed for you the rest will be OK. Hopefully your little wrigglers will be bigger wrigglers soon. Try saying that after a few pints.

Just had a phonecall from my mum, general chit chat, then she asked if I noticed my fridge door  , well unless I can put fish in it I dont notice a lot, so I looked at my sparkling clean fridge door. "I cleaned it Saturday while you took the dogs out! and I wiped that grotty tray on top of that little tank, but that wouldnt come clean!" She only used a spray cleaner, the fry tank is on the worksurface above the fridge and she used the same cloth to wipe the lid of the fry tank. I suspect the fumes/chemicals got into the water thats why they started dying off saturday evening/sunday so suddenly

Well at least I know it wasnt my fault! can only hope now some survive! or have better luck next time

Mate iam sorry to hear of the losse's, but sometimes these things happen, that breeding pair of angels i had way back, i had 11 batches from them, first three got nowhere, then got to eggs with tails, everytime i got further,to the free swimming around a week stage, discovered dad took care of them, then ate them,so i sold the pair to someone who had more tanks, also with my bristlenose plecs,i did a grand job growing them up, think i may have sold them to juvi mind, as when they went to the shop within the week the first batch nearly all died bar the one id kept, who's still with me today, fish fry are difficult to rear thats why theres sooo many to start with, you have done a grand job, keeping around 30 still id say is very good going indeed, maybe these rotkeils are not as hardy as other cichlids..

Oh poop just happens sometimes, it sadly gets us all eventually, no matter how well we take care of our fish something untoward can crop up. Least I have some left, just gotto hope those make it, pulled out a couple more dead ones over the day. I can always try again next time.

when my cutteri fry were in the r=early stages o load of them just disappeared, and even when i cleaned the tank i found no bodies! and i only have a small sponge filter in their tank, still a mystery!
hope the remaining fry are doing well ad look forward to some good pictures when they get a bit bigger! my babies are getting on past 15mm now but still hard to get pics of them in the tank!

Good news the remaining fry are doing ok, only lost one more, but he was not properly formed, he only had one eye and was struggling to swim, I was going to euthanise him but thought as he managed to survive the disaster I would give him a chance. I think I have miss counted I still seem to have 28-33 left the number changes each time I try and count them lol. I have borrowed a camera and will try my best to take a pic of them.

Excellent news, gotta be on the home straight now, surely :)

Another week or so and I'll have my nice big tank ready for a Severum, preferably a Rotkeil!

I would love to buy one from you when a little bigger as I know what a hardy bunch they must be, but I bet you don't live anywhere near Norwich do you, most people don't lol, we don't like strangers round ere :)

Birmingham I am afraid. The little guys are really starting to grow nicely now and feeding really well, just about reaching 1cm now, still dont look like sevs yet though. Mum and dad have spawned again, but this time are managing to keep the 2 big plecs (and everyone else) at bay, cant actually see the eggs but breeding tubes were down the other day and they havnt moved from under the root ornament, they are really well hidden this time.
