Update: It seems that things either work or don't work. Since my last post, I have hatched 24 fry, none of the eggs were "unfertilized", no fungus none turning white the fry all hatched and grew up just fine (surviving 100%). The aphyosemions are all born free-swimming, no belly-sliders (which I'm guessing is how killifish breeding should actually be. I was surprised because at first I even got lampeye sliders). I made 2 changes- bought a new filter cartridge for the sink and stopped hatching in paper cups. I'm guessing it was either some irritant in the water or temperature fluctuation.
