Have you ever felt that times this hobby is unnecessarily expensive? As the whole industry moves more and more to online sales and the lfs' try to keep up I feel as though us hobbyists are being a little ripped off. For instance I had a search of live bloodworm and brine on ebay and the cheapest I could find it was £4.00 in my lfs it's 50p

And was like :hyper:

I know it's a small amount but this isn't the fist time I've come across such high mark ups targeted at our hobby. Sad thing is my lfs closed down not too long ago and although they sell live foods at the regular price, the next nearest lfs to me is actually quite far away. So I have no choice but to buy the over priced or waste money on petrol...

My LFS charges good prices for fish but for equipment(Filter Media,Food,Chems) the prices are so high that I have to resort to online.

Its the price of BogWood that really grinds my gears!! :X

£3.50 in Windsor Maidenhead Aquatics, worth a drive if you want a lot ;)

haven't been to that one in quite a while.

what are you doing driving all that way?

I work near Maidenhead, i can dive out there at lunch and get back in just over the hour :)

I picked up this little guy and 4 females last week:

:D well pleased. Very cool shop, lots of nice plecs and marine fish, if you are into that.

agree completely! £7 a kilo near me.

HA! I wish that was the case near me. Mopani wood is £8.50/kilo and regular Bogwood is about £11/kilo!

The next nearest LFS after this one is over 30 miles away so a 60 mile round trip would cost me the same in fuel.

you have to remember that online stores have to take into account postage and packing fees though which are always overlooked by customers, also if an online seller doesn't own a proper shop building (like myself) then certain lines become much more expensive for us to buy as we may have to go through multiple suppliers whereas in the main established shops can go straight to the manufacturers.

As well as running my online store I also work 2 days in a LFS and can say that for some lines it costs me at least 100% more to buy than if I order them for the LFS.

Would you like to sell me some brine and blood worm?

Swallow aquatics in Rayliegh, just picked up a mahoosive piece of bog wood for £19.99. Amazing price.

Sakura shrimp! Aka renaming shrimp in an effort to charge £5.00 per regular cherry shrimp.

also agree with this, and also suggest you support your local LFS. Somtimes online sellers have us by the walnuts. I always try and order in from my LFS. The other thing that gets me about buying online, is not trusting the delivery system.
