At Last Ive Finished My New Painting.

Its taken me a long time to do but at last its finished.

Its a painting from a photograph taken at my sisters wedding (hence my 'godfather like' look) of Jude and I with our daughter Mirren.

Jude always loved the photo and since I wanted to rekindle my painting I decided to put myself to the test and paint the photograph for her birthday.

After over 12 hours painting here it is, Ive mounted it but we'll pick a frame on her birthday.

It felt like a lifetime believe me, I had to work on it when Jude was out but its hard to paint while entertaining a 15 month old at the same time. She was stealing my brushes, sticking her hands in the paint...you name it.

AMAZING!!! I am so jealous of all the people that can paint, draw anything! I can't draw for the life of me, and I stick to paint by numbers which still come out horrible!

You are very very talented! You should definately pick it up again! Maybe do commission work and such, you are very talented!

Thanks for the comments, Im gtoing to get back into my painting and see where it takes me.

Underwurlde - your wifes paintings are amazing, my wife would love them, she LOVES horses and has recently started drawing them herself in charcoal.
Would it be cheeky of me to ask if your wife makes a living from her portraits?

Im going to be setting up my own website soon but Im working on a few series of paintings and aim to get them shown somewhere, Im giving up smoking so it will keep me busy!

The first series Im doing is of the Vietnam War, a rather controversial subject matter but that could work. I finished the first one yesterday.

She started her business only 4 months ago - she did it because she almost died through her 2nd pregnancy (flu + pre-eclampsia = 2.5lb baby & both in intensive care - both are fit & well today) - hell, she ran a half marthon yesterday! She is an amazing person.

Anyway, back to the point, she currently has about 9 commissions, (and I'm not talking the usual freinds and family fodder). The Web Site has taken off amazingly (I coded it by hand using a poxy text editor and it only costs £25 per YEAR) and is linked via ebay. I have indexed the site using Statscounter and you'd be amazed at the amount of people who now view it, not just on a weekly basis, but on a daily basis, from all over the world. Internet is an advertizers dream. She has set herself up as self employed and pays NI etc. so yes, I'd say if things just stay as they are, she could easily make a living out of it - bear in mind she is not only good, but bloody quick as well - because she herself is into horses allows her to not only paint the animals (from photos) but to also capture their personality.

BTW I stopped smoking too - 2 years ago on my oldest daughters 3rd birthday. I thought f-this, this is stupid, so I stopped. There & then after 10-a-day for 18 years (that's university for you) and havn't had one or even wanted one since. Best thing I have ever done for myself. I found that if I thought of myself as a non-smoker, a person who does not smoke, then why would I have a lighter in my pocket? Why am I buying fags? Why would I want one? I did NOT think of 'giving up', because I was not giving anything up!. Oh, and watching the film Constantine helped no end too. LOL.
