As I expected this is just becoming a topic to flame... I am now requesting that Tolak or CFC or another mod delete this thread... The original point was to discorage people from giving these sitres reconition... I can see that not many people feel the same way as I do...

I don't see flaming here. I see many people having a very logical discussion about the use of feeders. I like reading these opinion threads, actually, because I like to learn about the other members' views. Saying that only people who agree with your opinion can post is being close minded.

The point to this forum is to be open minded.

i don't under stand whats wrong with feeding a group of giant pirhanas large feeder fish...my friend had 8 giant piranahs and he fed them large pond gold fish. idon't understand thats what they do it gets them worked up in a feeding frenzy they like it its a feeder fish get over it omg...some people need to chill out and dude you need to go watch the discovery channel animals take down large animals all the time. are you going to get pissed because some times a pair of tigers take down an elephant? good grief m8 go see a docter i think they make meds for that

What does that tell us? It tells us that the pictures are disturbing... well ya we know... anyways the original point of this was to post if you agree that these pictures should be deleted upon being found by a moderator...

Then back to the original point. No, I don't think that such pictures should be deleted entirely. As long as they are of an appropriate nature for younger viewers, they're just a topic for discussion. If you don't like to look at it, then don't look at it. Simple as that.

I know that this forum is very international, but being an American myself, the first thought that comes to my head when proposing a ban of anything conrtoversial is that it's a violation of freedom of speech! Even if it's a disturbing topic people should be able to discuss and debate it. (and I think that many developed countries that don't specifically have the 1st Ammendment share these same ideals nonetheless)

Not everything in this world can simply be ignored, and often ignoring a problem only perpetuates it. Discussing a topic, disturbing or otherwise, helps to educate people that might not have known such a thing existed in the first place. Knowledge is the first step to change. Ignorance only leads to more ignorance!

The reason most of us are yawning is because threads like this get started simply to cause a fight. Stating that you shouldn't post if you don't agree.... what, are you burying your head in the sand and saying lalalala to everyone who doesn't agree? That's bound to tick a few people off. That and blatent censorship. If you don't want to see these thigns, then don't click them. Simple. Trying to outright ban what can be used as teaching tools is rediculous. Obviously your thread was deleted because it was a flamewar. So why not respect the Mod's decision and let it be, rather than trying to stir up the hornets nest again? It's not cool to troll around solely to start controversy. If you want an educational, respectful debate this is the right place to do it. If you want to just start trouble, for the sake of everyone, don't do it here. It's not fair to those who are dedicated to learning and growing in the fish community.

there's a lot of technical things wrong with feeding feeder goldfish to pirhanas. Some people cry cruelty because the goldfish have no chance to escape, like a fish might in the wild. taking your example, no one would care if two tigers took down an elephant in the wild because the elephant would have had just as good a chance of getting away. however if the the elephant had a leg chained to the ground and two tigers were set on it, you better believe people would protest. That's not nature, it's just a bloodsport.

another problem is that feeder fish from petstores inherently come with diseases and will bring them into your tank and infect your fish.

and a third problem is that goldfish are about the worst thing you can feed a fish healthwise for reasons that have been widely discussed throughout the forums. There's even a pinned topic on it somewhere.



but back on topic, i agree that censorship of those images will not make them go away. people won't get bored with those things, they will probably forget and leave them up, or laugh about it with their idiot friends who see nothing wrong dropping a live mouse into a tank full of pirhanas regardless of whether anybody on the internet pays attention. However on many sites, both free hosting websites and those such as YouTube you can report content that you feel is offensive and have those videos removed. One hopes that repeated remonstrations will make a person think about what they are doing, but ignoring it will not.

On topic:
I just searched fish, and soon I cam across a video of a group of piranahs eating a live mouse. There are tons of videos, you never know what you'll find. I for one found it interesting how they dismembered the carcus of the mouse and captured and killed it, but sure it was cruel to the mouse, but it happens in nature... Better hope you never go on vacation to any areas where one animal eats another!
