Arghhhh! I Just Found Molly Fry In My Son's Tank!

Apparently at my Petco they charge a $20 setup fee if you buy a floor model. lol. The cheapest I've seen a bowfront was the 16 gallon bowfront aquarium kit by aqueon for $125.00 at petsmart then a 16 gallon bowfront aquarium kit and stand at petco for $200. I've never seen a 36 gallon. :look:

PetSmart has the 36 and 46 Euro gallon bowfront tanks. Each store generally only has one of each on the floor. They're already assembled and a bit dusty so see if you can get them to reduce the price. Right now, my tank & stand is on sale for $229 I believe. You may even be able to get a bit more off the price if it looks a bit worn. I got the manager to drop 15% for some scratches on the edges of the stand.

Good news! I just checked the ammonia & nitrite and both are perfect zeros!!! I also checked my son's 20 gallon donor tank just to make sure I didn't take too much of his media & his shows perfect zeros as well.

Now I have to go to Lowe's for a new water heater...............that should run around $500 plus installation, how depressing.

They don't have any at the moment but I'm going to call again and ask if they have a floor model. I'm also kind of mad I was too lazy to go yesterday now they're out of $1 cardinal tetras.

Just saw 2 36 gallons at petsmart. The kit w/o the stand for $175 and the kit with the stand for $250. Maybe I can get the floor model too. :hyper:

The good part about the 36 bowfront is that the middle is 16 inches from the wall giving a lot of swimming room for the fish. It's also like 21 inches deep which is good for growing the taller plants. If you fill some of the height with tall Bacopa & Wisteria you'll see the smaller schooling fish swimming closer to the top instead of hanging around the bottom. It gives them a sense of security and the real plants also help keep the nitrates in check.

I called another petsmart a little farther from me and they have cardinals and the 36 gallon kit. :hyper: :D

I doubt I'll get it but... But on the other hand I got my 50 pushups but my dad won't believe me :grr:
Now I gotta do em again. Grr. :grr:

PetSmart had Neon Tetras for $1 each yesterday.............I got (3) for my son's tank. I also bought (3) Fancy Guppies, one blue & two orange for about $3.50 each. The Powder Blue Dwarf was at PetCo for $9 including tax but their warranty made it worth it.

If I could I'd spend over $2000+ on fish. ATM I have spent around $600-$700 on fish. I've got tons of money. I paint mailboxes and next year I can work at publix.

Yeah the cardinals are also $1 each. I'm gonna get 5 more so my shoal is 10 then next weekend I'll get the gouramis. Hopefully I can get 1 male 1 female.

I would tell my Dad that I'm just looking for a bigger home for the fish and promise to break the 10 gallon down after you've transferred the fish in it. Then you can use the 10 gallon for a QT or hospital tank if necessary.

Sounds like a good plan, go for it. :good:

I've got a 29 gallon and my 10 gallon is my fry tank. I would break down the 10 gallon when the fry grow up. How much would you charge for red platy mixed with Mickey mouse platy fry at around 2 months for?

I have no idea what Platys sell for since I've never had them. PetSmart won't take them at all & PetCo will take them for free. Local fish stores are your best bet. They might pay you as much as 50-80¢ each for them.

I just tested my son's 20 gallon for nitrate & the test shows around 30 ppm. He'll need a water change in a couple of days.

The new 10 gallon shows very low at about 3 ppm, but at least it appears to be cycled since it's only been up & running a couple of days. The important thing is that the ammonia & nitrite are at zero. I've been feeding the tank quite a bit too, since it has the Powder Blue, Molly fry, a school of Glowlights & three Guppies.

The fry are looking quite big now, and very healthy. All are swimming around & looking for food. I feed them crushed flake like 3 or 4 times a day and they don't leave a scrap.

I called central aquatics to get my filter and heater replaced because they were both noisy and she told me I could get new ones as soon as they received the old ones. I tried to explain cycling to her but she didn't understand and I had fish in the tank. She then offered to send me them first then when I receive them send mine back but would this effect my cycle?

Yeah, your filter is where all the bacteria grows and if there is no filter, there is no bacteria. ;)

That's what I said but she didn't understand and said I could only get the heater replaced if I got the filter too? That don't make sense!

That would be fine, as long as you take whatever media are in the ones you're using out and put the media in the new filters straight away, then send the old filters back. Shouldn't cause a problem.

Was the filter and heater in a package together?
