Aquael Fan-1 Plus In Baby Tank?

I have around 40 baby BN Plecs and my air sponge filter doesn't seem to be coping with the waste.

What I am thinking of doing is removing the casing from around the bottom of my AquaEl filter, effectively meaning it is a sponge filter and has nowhere to 'suck' the babies into?

it looks like you will just be making it into a power head driven sponge filter. they make them just like that with the sponge exposed.

i would think they will get sucked onto the exposed sponge just as easily as getting sucked thru the grates on the plastic cover. i would just put some womens panty hose on the bottom portion of the filter, then they cant get sucked "in"
