I am just setting up my first saltwater aquarium and have bought the biostar flotor protein skimmer but i find it noisy! Has anyone else had this trouble or am i doing something wrong? Is there some kind of silencer i can get as my bedroom is down stairs and the wife says it keeps her awake!!!!

I have the Turboflotor 1000. Is yours a hang on back or in sump version?

What pump are you using? If a Rio that is probably your problem. Is it seated and stable or wabbling around? What air pump? Those can be noisy. HOw is the skimmer fed? From a separate small pump or from the overflow?

Is it skimming? When the cup gets full things can get noisy.

I've got the same skimmer, but i've found the noise comes from the actual pump it self, as it's running on its own now and makes quite alot of deep bass type noise. Even from upstairs you can still hear it.

I've got the Juwel/Rio 240 also but the problem it self is the pump is quite noisy, but nothing I can do :(.

There is something you can do. Get the Oceanrunner 2700. $50. No noise at all.

I'd say either change the pump or put it on a timer.

ste :)

The biostar came with a Oceanrunner 2700 though :/. I guess I dont mind the noise as mucn now though, but still a deep trumbling from it.
