Appistogrammas

Personally I think a 10G is far too small for 4 apisto's, even 3 is pushing it a bit in my opinion. As a harem fish the females need to have enough territory, caves etc, and also enough hiding places to get away from the amarous males. Also the females will fight for territory, quite vigorously sometimes. The 20G is the better option but you already have a full stocking in that tank. You're going to have a pretty busy tank if you do use the 10G.

Do cockatoo cichlids sell well?
are they community?
how big do they get?

soz for the questions :p

Pretty hard to find in my area.
Yes they are community (dwarf cichlid) as far as i know.
Male is about 8.5cm, female is 5cm.

Id leave them in the 20G but as you say, its at full stocking. And i cant get a new tank at the moment. Renting place :\

Agreed that 10G is too small for more than a pair.

Female are yellow male tend to be silvery

Is that the best way? I here the elongated fins on males are also the way to distinguish them.

But at what size are they sexable?

Regards,
Indir

Elongated fins come with age. Size wise anything over 4cm and you should be able tell what sex it is, if a fish is over 6cm then its a MALE.

Ones im going to buy are rougly 3cm according to LFS thats special ordering for me.

So, guess ill have to wait out a little to see if their over 4cm or not and try to sex them.

Is colour the best way to sex them?

Regards,
Indir

Quickest IMO, Males may have elongated fins.

No, IMO they are quite easy to sex.

i wouldnt put more than a pair in a 10g i have a pair of apisto agazzisii in a 10g with lots of hiding places and they still get tertorrial.

Ill keep them in the 20G till i can sex them. And then i will see how they get along with the Ram and if all is good i will leave them in there and just transfer the fry across to raise them :)

Thank you all

Indir
