Another Topic Got Me Thinking

Basicly right now, I live in a bungalow built in the 1960s I have a metal stand which is 3ft with a 28usg on the top and a 33usg on the bottom and it has been there for a year [my floors arent concrete theyre all floorboards]

now im moving into a 2 floor house and i want to take my tanks [to the hatred of some] they are only saying i can take one, bt i spoke to my dad who says outting both in there on top of each other will be fine as long as it is on the joists

the house is a semi detached and the room i will have is teh one joining to teh other house, there is also a chimney breast in there and I will be putting it along that wall

there is a discussion on here for a 400l tank right now,

If I dont have to give up one of my tanks then Im going to ask!

wel i have just finished my degree in architecture and have learnt all about structural side of things. personally alot of people say go and get a structural engineer out blah blah blah....

but you should be completely fine with having it along the outer walls and on the joist. you would be surprised at how much weight they can hold... you could probaly put a small car in your room and be fine. generally older houses are more stronger.. to be on the safe side put the metal stand on top of a flat piece of wood to spread the weight out and you should be fine.
