my aqua clear mini has space for 3 things
1 foam sponge
1 activated carbon puch
and something for ammo-rid

its used to help with ammonia levels and ive never used it.

i only use carbon for after meds or if the water is a little skunky.

when do i use ammo-rid?

I would just fill the spaces up with foam pads.

ammo-rid the white rock pocket( if I'm not mistake r use to remove ammonia from water). You can switch that to some other pocket like algae remover the one that remove nitrate from water so algae can not grow. But ammo-rid r also nice to have but since u have bacteria in ur sponge to kill ammonia so switch to some that ur tank need or need to kill .

And if it proves too effective, may starve your bacteria and re-cycle the tank. Just add another sponge or some kind of biological growth medium instead.

alright ill just keep 2 sponges in the filter.

once this carbon is done im not adding any unless my tank gets really cloudy or i use meds.
