Alternative To Dechlorinator

Ive run out of dechlor and need to do a water change but Im unable to get to the store as its closed.
Just tested the water in my gouramis tank its 0.5, Can I use kettle water, let it cool down then add that to the tank or Will it still contain chlorine?

Any other way of getting rid of chlorine?

Boiling will get rid of chlorine (but not chloramine or heavy metals).

Get that kettle on, as you're going to need to do at least a 50% change

Have you not got access to any rainwater? That would help.

Ok thanks an No but my neighbor has a big tub in his garden which rains falls into, but also has some earth at the bottom, will this be of any use?

Also what could of caused the ammonia to rise?
I only done a water change 2 days ago (25%) and theres only one fish, No dead plants, hardly any waste.

I belive (please don't take my word for it) that leaving it overnight in a bucket with an airstone will get rid of the chlorine

Chlorine will evaperate after a few hours but as flutter has said the heavies dont go

Well ive put my gourami in my other 20g and will buy some dechlor tomorrow and sort it out then, Thanks for your help guys

snake, make sure you buy a large bottle. With all the collective gallons you have of tanks, you should never run out.

I know but since I have a fair amount of tanks, Its seems to run out quick, even though, I get a bottle every week.
Who said fish were cheap

I'd recommend buying some Seachem Prime, it's highly concentrated and should last you a long time! 5 ml will treat 200 litres. Never seen it in shops though, so might be an idea to buy a bottle of whatever you normally use tomorrow then order some Prime online for your next water change.

Was your tank cycled before putting fish in? You're going to need to watch your water perameters at least for the next few days.

Its about 2 months old

I do water changes often without any dechlorinator and I don't have any problems with it, I think someone on here did a 85% water change with out and dechlorinator

But I only do this when I am doing water changes like 10 to 15 percent I don't think I would take a risk as large as 85 percent, if I remember correctly it was actually Ludwig who did this
