All The Fish Are Dead

sorry for my lost but i need to know where i did wrong

i had 4 galon water tank and this is the third month

i hade on it

3 Molly
2 Balloon Molly
3 Cat Fish
1 Pleiku Astoms ( tank cleaner)
2 Tiger Barb

i usually change 1\3 water once every week

Temperature on 29-28

feed them small meals 2 to 3 times every day

i start to feed ,cat fish and the tank cleaner, a 1\2 pice of boild zucchini and cucamber one every 3 days even if they finished it

yesterday they were active and happy with aout any problem but now in the after noon thy were all deid !!!!

how come?? they all were at the serfic buth some open mouth and the skin looks like is is being removing ( white things coing from skin like pealing)

the smell of the tank looks like chlorine or i i might be imagining to give reasons for the death !!

the thing is that why now? why all of them (11) ?? why when 2 of them will give birth ??

i want my fish back

By looks of it they died from ammonia/nitrite poisoning as well as being put into a tank far smaller then they can handle. The molly need a minimum of 10 gallons for just 2-3 and for the amount you have a 20 gallon would be far more ideal. The Barbs and catfish also need a muuuch larger tank of 30+ and depending on the catfish could be well over 75. Its also very likely the barbs harassed some tankmates to death since if not placed in a large enough tank with 5+ of the same kind of barb they tend to nip and harass the other other tank mates.

As for the Ammonia and Nitirite poisoning, that happens when a tank is un-cycled and unable to handle the waste load. We have a wonderful guide to explain all this in the link below:

While this may look bad the people of this forum are very knowledgeable and will help you get back on track with fish keeping. Its a great hobby but a little bit of knowledge is needed and that exactly what you can find here.

i have 45 L water tank it is almost 4 dallons or more

they lived happly with out any problem for over a month

the tigers ware friendly to them

cat fish and tank cleaner were very sall in size and they ware a lot of place, a person to;d me that i can put 3 more fish in the tank coz it is big and the fish are small in size

i dont have the test things to do the amonia or waht ever test you need

i only can say they were a few of fish pop there coz i make it clean and the filter take the dirt away

so this is what i have and with a lot of tears i say bye to them

4 Gallons is either 15 litres or 18 litres pending wether it's US or Imperial. 45 litres would be more around 10 gallons pending on the units used.

in the thing i used it says 10 L and 1 gallon

so you count that

it takes around 4 to 5 times to fill the tank almost

so you count it and do the test thing

free pen; how did you clean the tank and the filter? Did you clean them under the tap? Do you use something to remove the chlorine when you change the water?

You did have too many fish as well. If you could post how big your tank is (the length of the sides in centimetres or inches) we can work out how large it is for you

#1 rule of going to most pet stores is dont trust employees unless they can prove themselves. Not all but MOST petstores are out to make a buck not to give good fish keeping advice. I had the same problem when I first started. Went to petsore to buy fish for my newly purchased 5 gallon tank. Not only did they try to sell me a fish far to large for such a small tank they also said all you need to do is let the tank run for a few minutes before adding fish. Even said they had a few tanks and everything ran fine by doing this. Most stores will lie through their teeth to sell you a product.

Sorry about rant above but also while fish may seem five they are not always capable of telling you something is wrong. Thought my goldfish tank was fine since it was fully cycled and have been doing water changes, tested for ammonia and boom had 1ppm inside, did instant water change of 60% and all was back to normal (been checking daily since). Goes to show even though things look normal chaos can easily be happening.

I think the advice given so far is spot on although maybe hard to accept. Can you give us the measurements of the aquarium, height length and depth and we'll help you set up again but very slowly.

You were overstocked there in a tank that had only been running a month,its no real surprise this happened but you learn by mistakes and we'll help you set the tank up again in the right way that will prevent you from having this terrible experience again.

I know from past experience that zucchini thats left to rot in the water can make the fish be unable to breathe. I don;t know the scientific reason but it happened to me a couple of times when I left it in a much bigger tank for more than 48 hours

not sure if this has been mentioned as i havn't read all the replies but if you didn't use fresh start which conditions tap water this could be another reason, appologies if this already been said. The experts will tell you more on this as im quite new to fishkeeping

I would

1) Start again & cycle the tank
2) Lower the temperature. 24-26c is more normal for a community tank
3) Introduce much fewer fish and only get what is suitable for this small tank
4) Feed them less often. Once a day should be sufficient.
5) Get a test kit & keep an eye on the important stats, especially the pollution ones which are more likely to occur in a small tank

i dont know if i will start again but for sure not now

i cant handel a death of a fish again ( i even dont eat fish coz i love them )

my tank is

tall= 11 inch
hight = 16 inch
weidth = 18
do the mathe and tell me how mouch gallon it is and how much fish i can put ( if i ever used it again )

i had the tank over 3 month but didnt see any problem or any fish dieng except once at the beigining over fight


* i cant make the tempreture between 24 coz the normal tem is about 27 - 29 were i live so the water should be same ( no heater had been used)

* i cant buy a test kit coz we dont have it in stores where i live and cant buy online ( i live far a way from USA )

so tell me what should i do ??

is it coz of zucchini ?? thats mean i killed them !!!

i didnt see any problem coz it was in the tank fo 2 days and the fish were ok and they were happy with the small pice of it

never mind i cried alot and i will never ever feed the fish again any thing exsept the fish food
