Algae & PH

wonder if anyone can help, I sent my OH into a aquatic shop this afternoon to get something to remove the algae from fishtank no fish in there at present!!!
He came back with what the owner recommeded & that was a PH reducer, is this going to work or has he given us the wrong stuff?

Sounds a bit odd to me!! An algae scraper would be more effective for the glass, I use a scouring pad (soft fabric type, NOT steel wool) used for washing-up (a new one that's never been used in a kitchen) and a toothbrush the odd time I get algae. Do you have live plants covered in algae to?
