Are they any common fish that eat algae,for example the chinese algae eatter,do they actually eat algae?

siamese algae eaters are good but they do get used to food supplied for other fish and become lazy at algae eating when older. otos are also good and i think both will eat all types of algae.

you could also use shrimp if you don't have any fish that eat them lol. i have 5 SAE's and they do a great job on the algae that WAS in my tank. i have practically none now.

SAE's again, i think they're the best as long as you've got the room. they're pretty happy as a single specimen, or a shoal of at least 4. they eat just about all types of algae unlike a lot of others. just be really careful when buying as there's a lot of other fish that get sold under the same name that have a completely different temperament.

personally though, preventing algae is a better way to control it imo. get some fast growing plants, see how they go, add CO2 and extra nutrients if you need to. then the plants will out-compete the algae for the nutrients

i would say b/n plecs you can keep them on their own and a youngster will eat nothing else but algae. di

The best that I have found for that stringy green algae that we all get if we have plants is the Ameca splendens. It is a goodeid and is not a good member of a peaceful community but it is a wizard at eating algae.
