im thinking adding air stone into my fish tank just wee little stone ..tank is in living room so im looking for a fairly quiet air pump and decent one wont break down can anyone recommend a pump

Eheim do a pretty decent one that is nice and quiet, it can be hung on a wall (inside a cabinet of course) so it has nothing to vibrate against.

It's not overly cheap but it should last a while and be worth it in the long run.

nice one will go local shops tomorrow but will prob have to order as not big selection up here in aberdeen

I got one of the Eheim 200 for Xmas and it is not quiet at all!

In my experience they are, mine that i have at the moment is as quiet as anything. Strange, i guess it varies depending on situation.

Well I have had 3 of the smallest pumps [background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]Eheim make, they all made more noise than my cheapo £8 air pump from China. [/background]
[background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]The reason I bought the Eheim's was because they were supposed to be quiet but I was quite disappointed. [/background]

I think so, i turned mine on for a few mins, and then it was straight back in the box, and I suppose to be sold! Very disappointing.

I have 5 Eheim 400 pumps running within 12 feet of me, extremely quiet, the lot of them

Not deaf at all, 2 pumps are on my 8 footer 6 foot away from me, 3 pumps are on my fry tanks 12 foot away from me, VERY quiet pumps. The Whisper pump in my son's room is deafening

Cool, you must have been lucky because every single Eheim Air pump I have heard is noisy.

I have the Eheim 400 hundred positioned on top of the cover of one of my tanks, not hanging and it's non-existent as far as noise goes, running smoothly for over a year, the best I've had so far.

From what I gather from the comments above it seems the Eheim 400's are quiet and the Eheim200 are noisy :)

I Have an eheim 400, tis not silent but tons quieter than the 4 different air pumps I've used in the past!

3 out of 4 of these pumps died from sheered screws from vibration. At least I have the peace of mind that the eheim won't break on me!

winaldo which pump did you get?  I am on the look out for one and had considered the larger Eheim.  Was around at a friends house helping them with their tank and they had a TetraTec pump which I commented on how quiet it was.

I have a small Maidenhead Aquatics one that seems quite quiet, not sure whether to get a larger one of theirs or try another brand, like the TetraTec.

Anyone else had any experiences of a good air pump that they would recommend for being quiet?
