Fish Fanatic
LOL....great comparison!!!!
What's that? To rehome it to a place that you know is going to take excellent care of it???thats a damn shame thats all i have to say to do that to any fish is just wrong
Hmm.
It's odd freshmike.... I had the same impression!
...particularly when, on the forum that freshmike and I moderate on (mike is admin/owner and I am a super mod) Bbum posts such things on June 30, 2006 as:
...of course foloowed up by pic of her fish.Hey, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about exactly what I have the time, money and space for fish wise and I've realized that I've been stretching myself super thin on everything. I hope no one gets upset with me, I'm really thinking of the fish here. I'm keeping my girls tank and 3 or 4 of my favorite boys but I need to find good homes for the rest. So here they are
WTF? Waht happened to giving up bettas? JUST kiddin' were ya?
and before that you told us that you were going to get out of bettas, then to follow it up with "help me figure out how to breed bettas, because I changed my mind!" that flip-flop mentality went on for weeks amongst the rest of this stuff...
I heard through the grapevine that it would be optimal to post specific quotes and samples (evidence, if you will) of things that we have to be angry about. Well ask and you shall receive. Since I am a super mod on the forum, many complaints about mistreated, sick, neglected fish and fish purchase transaction complaints get filtered through me. I have fished through my pm box and dug up a few samples to provide you all:
This was one person who was trying to "rescue" a fish from her, she never got the fish out so the person asked for the money order back. That was not taken care of either so the result was this pm:
She allegedly sent a money order Monday. If it isn't here by Saturday, I'm going to have to ask her to see the tracking number. If there is no tracking number, I can safely assume its not been sent, and shall have to b*tch her out some more.
It sounds like many people are having issues with her fish not being the quality she claims they are. Isn't there a post right now about yet another fish from her that developed a spinal deformity? Or was that some other breeder.
Here's a random one that someone sent me about a fish that a friend of mine sent her - the fish was sent as a "free to good home" with the understanding that the fish would just live out the rest of its life as a happy, healthy, spoiled fish. NOT to have been bred. Or resold...
And if for some reason you can't see the fish, he's in a dirty tank with a horibly chewed up tail. NOT in good shape at all. THEN we discovered his pictures - some of him in a tank with a girl in the chimney right behind him were labeled (as you can se THIS one is) with ....spawndiary001.jpg, etc. Not spawning him eh?http/smg.photobucket.com/albums/v249/Pho...awndiary007.jpg
Is that the pic of the boy Saucy sent her that you mentioned in the thread? If so...gah! His tail is horrendous! I only ask cause I notice it was titled "spawn diary" crazy3.gif Either way, that's a pretty horrendous tail!!
Some OTHER random person pm'd me this back on June 16..
Ugh. That poor guy!
I saw one of her posts on Petfishnet last niight, from April or May, where she said, basically "I have 29 bettas!I can never have too many bettas! All I have to do is keep buying tanks for them!" Yes, it IS possible to have too many. When you don't have the time or the resources to devote to ALL of them, then it's TOO many.
Then just recently another random pm from someone ELSE:
I just saw another adoption thread from BettaBum... her poor fish. It sounds like she constantly gets too many, gets overwhelmed, than needs to re-home them. I'm glad she at least has enough of a head on her shoulders to realize when she is in over her head, but god damn; she needs to take some preventative measures, because this is just unfair to the fish. I bet many people won't even buy/adopt from her because of her constant "turnover" rate; I only take freebies from her myself. I might take one of the VTs, simply because I'd hate to let my personal distaste keep them from being cared for properly. I do not realistically see anyone adopting them, and now consider any bettas from her to be a rescue, not an adoption. Poor lil' buggers; the one that belonged to her boyfriend has quite a lousy looking tail. I wonder if it is husbandry related...
and another which was regarding me sort of "going off" on her about the ten BILLIONTH post she makes after she changes her mind about which fish the flavor of THAT week are:
I just read bettabum's 78779739450th post about needing to rehome her bettas...after reading an identical thread on TFF tongue1.gif I know she's registered on PetFish, and the bettysplenden's forum, too, so i'm sure they're THERE, too.
Just wanted to say - AWESOME response!!!! Yeah, it was harsh, but very well deserved in my opinion. I have no doubt in another month or two she'll be posting about wanting to rescue or breed again. And the title of the post is a LITTLE misleading in itself...she's not exactly "getting out" of bettas if she's just keeping her favorites.
and the most recent one: (I cut out the first paragraph because it would be far too obvious who this was and didn't want to incriminate anyone who has sent me these pms in confidence, but to sum it up it was that she was shocked and horrified about the condition a fish was in that she offered to adopt. Followed by this: (a few other lines were edited out to also maintain confidentiality)
Well, today I adopted a fish from her, and I am absolutely appalled by its condition. This fish is so horrifically underweight that I'm worried about possible TB. You can see the bones in his head and back, and he's skinny as a rail. His spine looks a little kinked down by his tail, and his fins - while not actively rotting - are very short and raggy. I can't believe she even subjected a fish like this to transport; he is gasping horribly, and I'm considering putting him on an anti-biotic just as preventative since his water felt awfully cold when I picked him up.
Bleh. I am shocked that she would even consider adopting out a fish like this, especially when she didn't explain his condition to me. Allthough I firmly believe she is an animal hoarder, her fish in the past have at least been healthy and well fed; this guy looks like he came straight out of WalMart.
I really hope she learns to STOP taking in bettas if she won't care for them properly. This is just disgusting. I just hope the lil bugger doesn't have TB, because then he won't even be able to enjoy his new life here. no1.gif

I'm sorry BBum - whenever I'm put in a situation where fish are in danger because of the care they're being given - YOU of all people should know the claws come ALL the way out, and I will ALWAYS stand up for the fish - however I can.

BettaBum: All I can do is hope that this isn't true, but I know Synirr wouldn't make it up. If you want a throwaway pet, get a pet rock.
