I've had two oscars since last October they are about 9 inches I would guess and haven;t grown that much in length in that period
They have always lived without any sign of aggression or doinance betwee the two and have been intriguing to have as inhabitants of my tank
Yesterday I notced that there was some displaying between the two and predominantly jaw locking and displaying with the jaws open... nothing particulary nasty but a change in behaviour none the less

My query is.... would 2 females do this, would a prospective pair do this and if I had 2 males would it be wore than this or would have happened already

Confusing questions I know but can anyone shed any light o this and clearlyI shall have to keep an eye on them
There has never been any digging from these fish

Yes si, two female oscars can go all the way, even as far as laying eggs together, but obviously nothing will come of it,,,maybe they have decided to pair off, you never know, cant be two bad if you had them together nearly a year, but maybe there now coming into there own, mine went through a awful stage to alot of people eyes, i stuck with it,and they came out the other side,

two females can go all the way :hyper: a fantsy achieved maybe lol

I always presumed that if they were two males I would have had world war one by now but as I say not a hint ofaggressin till yesterday and its not really aggresion to be honest

Neil do you still have your Pulchra? My only remaining one is in the big tank with oscar and hes great in there. Challenging the oscars for food and hand feeding with the fire eel. I know they should be in cooler temps but I;m stuck with him for now as no tanks left

No i swapped them with Bolty for some other channa, what temp is the water, should be fine for a while as they can handle higher temps for quite a period, my ornatipinnis tank has been up on 24c now since may time and there doing great

well the aggression seems to be getting a little worse. LOTS of jaw locking, no actual injuries but they go into a corner and act aggressively to each other. they;re about 9-1o inches now. Beautiful and I;d be loathe to lose/sell one

any advice on whats happening and is this just expected behaviour for oscars of a particular size
