Added More Sand To My Planted Tank?

I rushed in to my first aquascape, and now it turns out I don't have enough sand in it to make a sloping look.
The tank is still cycling so there are no fish in there, just a few pond snail hitchhikers.

What's the best way to top up the sand without making a huge mess and covering the plants?

Once the sand is clean, put it in a jug or bowl and tip it out from low down in the tank
