I've just got home from watching my local football team lose 2-0, but sadly I have something else to be ashamed of. Before the match, I decided to go in to my LFS as I haven't been in for a few months to have a nosey. The plan was to have a look what they had in stock and think about my options so that I don't have to buy an excessive amount of fish online.

The store used to be quite good with a large selection of healthy fish at decent prices. Now however; some of the tanks have dead fish in, some are stocked stupidly and ALL are overstocked drastically.

3 of the tanks specifically caught my attention. One of the tanks was around 40L with around 15 small discus in, so overstocked that the fish were constantly bumping into each other. The second was another tank that was about 40L which had a number of dwarf gouramis that seemed to have no energy at all as they were all sat on the substrate. Finally, the third tank was the one that shocked me most, it seemed to be about 120L that had 10 medium oscars in!

This is the only fish store in my area so I have to either buy from them or online. Following today's visit, I plan on buying ALL my fish online.

How can I manage to buy everything online so that I don't have to pay loads for postage but not add too many fish at once just in case my bacteria cannot handle the waste?

I think I may have to risk it.

Twas to my understanding that when you fishless cycle it is best to add the vast majority of your final stocking as your bacteria can cope with it?

I think it will be able to, there's no point in only adding a few fish and letting some of the bacteria die off to then add more and let it grow again...

lol i live in barnsley but would never shop there, never had anything live longer than a week. there are loads of really good shops not a million miles away. Rainbow aquatics in mexbrough is the bet local one then there are several good garden centres with good fish selection and a bit further away you have ferry bridge aquatics and qss in bradford. i tend to do a few in the same day like tingley tropicals followed by qss and tong garden centre, or rainbow, viscum and harlington world of pets are all pretty close and just down the a1 from ferrybridge. :hey:

You should go have a look at Aqua Inn, it's atrocious!

Unfortunately I'm only 16 and I can't drive so my options are a bus ride to town for a visit to Aqua Inn or buy online.

don;t put them all in at once Josh that will be a recipe for disaster mate

even if the fish are bad at your LFS you could still buy fish that you feel look healthy enough from there and if they go into your healthy set up they should be ok

what sort of fish are you looking for Josh i know some people who have fish houses and import their own stock and you only live 5 mins from me lol

I think I'm going to have to buy some fish from them and hope there isn't too much wrong with them. I can't imagine having 21 fish being delivered in one day.

I'm planning on having my 125L as a planted community tank.

My original stocking list is:
12 Neon Tetras
6 Peppered Corys
A pair of Dwarf Gouramis
1 Bristlenosed plec

I may then have a little room leftover for later on.

or mither some unsuspecting family member or friend to take you further afield :D orrrrr you could go out and pull a older girl and get her to drive you!

you got options lol

I think I might have to nag my parents to take me somewhere, that could be a whiles worth of work though. As for pulling an older girl for her to take me to buy some fish, that would take to long!
