Just thought i'd make a quick introduction :)

I'm sam, and i'm 23 from oxfordshire.

I got given a 12L tank from a friend a few days ago that i'm going to use untill i have the money for the tank that i want :) compleatly new to tropical fish so i'm trying to do everything right.

Everything has been cleaned with hot water and tools that havent had cleaning chems on and the tank was filled up on friday and had some chemical added to it for the filter, i'm going to leave it for a few weeks before i start adding fish (this way i have time to find some nice fish and to see what fish can live with what)

I don't know if there is anything important that i've missed but i'm sure i'll find out, just signed up so am about to start going through the boards.

to the  forum. Good on you for wanting to do things right and I am sure the beginners resource center on this site will be very valuable to you.
12L is quite a small tank, so dont be too discouraged with what fish it will be able to house, also being a small tank you will need to stay on top of water changes and temp etc because the smaller the volume of water the less room for error.

I would make it a heavily planted tank and add 3-5 cherry or glass shrimp and a mystery snail.
Or
Get a 20 gallon plus tank and use 12 lieter as hospital.
It's up to you.

A 12L is small (3g), so sadly you can't keep any fish in a tank that small, not even a betta, but maybe one male guppy. You could keep 30+ shrimp though. Best of luck!
