Could anyone advise me of what sort of figures i should be thinking of if selling all my stock?
1x Tiger Oscar 9"
1x JD, 9"
1x GT, 6"
1x Firemouth, 3-4"
1x Red Spotted Severum 5"
2x Royal Plec 4" & 3"
4x tinfoil barbs 4"
5x F1 anglefish juvies

i have no idea what they are worth as to me they are my pets and priceless, i dont want to sell them but have no other option

thanks

chris

Red spotted severums of that size go for £20 in a decent lfs near me. The same shop does firemouths at £7. The rest I don't know about as they're bigger than I've seen in shops.

Hope this helps.

To be honest mate, and I know this sucks but unfortunately SA cichlids aren't really worth a great deal ( I keep them too and think they are great but people shy away as they think they are aggressive). Are the plecs the panaque? things, if so they are worth £15/ £20 each. The tinfoils and firemoths are a fiver each at best. Depending on the quality and sex the JD is about a tenner as is the GT. The oscar could be £15 but I have seen these free to a good home as they get so big. Don't know a massive amount about angels but it would depend on type and how big they are.

i would rather they went to a good home with someone who had the space and the knolage to look after them rather than make loads of money

i'm going to agree with the comments above. your going to be really lucky to actually sell these fish. your best bet is seeing if you have people near you who will take them.

just the fish? or tank also, make a difference in the price, however, you could be lucky, i mean my old lfs used to have most s/c americans up for 40pounds + for a 6inch above, 10inch oscars 50pounds each, people always paid it, i sold my big tank for a nice sum, the bloke only brought it as it was tank included, he said he only wanted the fish,

Do you have a maidenhead store nearby? Recently I advised a guy who was selling similar stock to try our nearby store and he was offered £180 in return for his fish, so definitely worth a try,

You won't normally get a lot for fish of this type, unfortunately. One of my LFS tends to take fish in exchange for credit which is handy. I took my 5" Green Sev there and got £7 credit. Not great, but better than nothing. Expect they sold her for £15.

The Red Spot - I paid £22.50 for mine at around 2", he's now 5" so would have thought he'd be worth more. All depends on the availability though.

Best to offer them free to a good home I think. The home is better than price.

I feel for you as whenever I have needed to move fish on, no one is local to me to take them, so end up taking them to LFS. That included a stunning GT - never seen a female so beautiful as she was and I raised her from about 1/2" big. Got nothing for her.

All depends on demand, for large South American cichlids not a great demand due to the size of tank reqd. My local Maidenhead won't take any Centrals, they'll take some South Americans but won't pay any cash for them.

Red Spotted Severums are pretty cheap here in Somerset, my Super Red...much more red than the normal type cost me £6.99.

I paid £25 for a 8" Red Spotted Severum 3 tears ago from maidenhead Aquatics.

GT's are ten a penny also.

Strange that. I guess it all boils down to availability. Yeah mine is 'super red' as well. Fantastic fish, would have paid twice what I did as I love him

GT's are stupidly £10 each in one of my LFS, usually about a fiver in most others. Though TBH it's unusual around here to get a decent fish for less than a fiver.

I find GT's as common as Convicts, in my lfs Watermarque, Taunton, Somerset they are £2.95 each for some good sized 3.5" good quality fish, my local Maidenhead is known for having inflated prices but the best quality fish, they sell them for £8 each for 1" Juvies.

Jd's are £1.95 for standard, £18.99 for Electric Blue.
