Java fern can get rather large - single leaf not the largest; the leaf itself is over 10 inches long and 1 3/4 inch wide; add in the stem and it is nearly 12 inches. The larger ones are of course larger. Definitely a plant worth avoiding esp in those 5s and 10s.

I think in the past i've talked about my female bn's silly hiding place and in the above picture you can see her yellow tail sticking up

Some roots from a couple of plants i temporarily removed from a 10 - why you should have deep substrate - hum oh well stupid ass fish (i spent over 2 hours trying to catch a fish in a 10 and even after removing everything including all the water it still eluded me - next time i'm going to just pour the whole thing out because i can't spend this much time on some stupid ass fish that is driving me crazy with her (and yes it is a female) antics:

The top plant is a crypt kei or kie - rather nice plant but vaguely i think it needs blackwater - not sure if it will grow in more moderate water - the other is one of these nicer echinodorus - it won't get large but it sure will make a lot of roots. Which one i have no clue - one of the gazillion hybrids they sell these days but it is a nice little plant. One reason your substrate should be 20 feet deep. They grow and grow.

These are all the same male pelvicachromis kribensis lokunje but slight difference in colour balance change the looks:

He is about 50% grown and i expect a deeper purple/red along the fins as he gets older. The female is more red (not belly per sey but fins); but she has to be careful he doesn't see her so no pictures today. She is probably about 1/3 full grown size - maybe 1/4.

People ask why do you put leaves in your aquarium? And the answer is simple so you can wrap them around your fishes:

What i can tell you is that in a room full of dwarf cichild i usually find several fishes wrapped up nice and tight like a pig in a blanket.
