A Few Of My Oddballs

what absolutely stunning fish! the Tyre Track Eel is amazing, my son would go mad for one of those, is he easy to feed?

And where is this BAS peeps are mentioning, it sounds like somewhere I may have to take a day trip to one day..........

Hi Kari, so far he's been a heart stopping fish! (read my 'gave me a fright' thread) but food wise he wolfed down bloodworm last night and has turned his nose up at finely chopped prawn tonight - probably not what he's used to.

My other eel (who looks tiny compared to this guy - a half banded eel about 7" but not as deep either) will only eat bloodworm - at least while I'm watching, sure he must eat other bits though or he'd be dead by now.

I love this guy though, very active, keeps trying to swim up the filter outlet so I'm glad he's bigger than the pipe, he's bold though, as you can see from the pics.

Oh and BAS is in Bolton, sometimes great sometimes not but they do get some nice unusual fish.

Dave, they do have some nice plecs in, not cheap though.

lol, not bothered if their not cheap! as long as they are nice.
last time they had the L047 magnum plecs, very nice, might see if they have any left.
i wouldn't say its sometimes good, sometimes bad, its always good, just doesn't always have exactly what you want, but id say it has a lot more choice than most places in the whole of britain, and certainly has the largest selection of tropical fish i have ever come across!!
also last time i went they had some Betta albimarginata (white seamed bettas) might look into a group of them for my small tank, or some of the other bettas!
i think its a brilliant fish shop, and would recommend a visit to anyone!!

Dave

Still had at least 1 magnum on Sunday - I'll prob be back there on Monday now as the Oscars are still in quarentine :(

It is worth a visit - for those who drive then it is possible to combine with a trip to Pier in Wigan and Oasis in Salford. BAS also has a cafe and play area for those with little uns/bored other halfs.

Good Sugestion! i might nip down BAS for a browse as it sounds good, don';t have what im after in stock but like looking at fish, then will skipp accross to Oasis as never been there. Pier aquatics is really good just i drove past it a few times without realising:( #41#### sat nav.

I got a wild oscar from Penrith they look smart , its like a grey'ish green colour, very healthy stock there too.

why, what are ya after ben??
if you looked at their stock list then i wouldn't bother lol, thats been the same for about 12 months at least! pretty bad really.
last time i went to bas they had about 3 large magnum plecs in different tanks and a tank full of smaller ones, think all the tanks were top ones, think thats why i didnt get one as i couldnt see them properly!
im after a pair of some species of south american cichlids, not made my mind up what i want but bas normally have a few to help me!
did they have any of the different species of betta's did you notice?
whats the one in penrith called? is it good??
there is hardly any good fish stores near me! just really have my lfs and ma in blackpool, after that i go to bas most i think, and it takes an hour down the motorway!
still havent been to pier aquatics, im scared how much money id spend on some of the rarer fish they get in there!!

Dave

LOL, I think they still had some bettas - other half says they def. had at least 1 type but can't remember what.

Pier I go to very rarely due to the risk of overspending - they do have some lovely fish (have a nosey on their website they usually have stock lists in the forum bit and pics of new arrivals)

I'd love a wild Oscar

Dave - i was after a shovel nose catfish (sorubim Lima) and some sort of Bichir , most likely the ornate as its pretty. They only had Polypterus lapradei in which is bigger than what i'm after. Yeh there stock list is Feb , gave them a call yesterday. I'll still go down like as i wouldnt mind seing the reptiles etc.

The store in Penrith is called North Lakes Aquatics http://www.northlakesaquatics.com/ it has quite a few tanks mostly tropical with some of the larger oddballs in , decent variety of Cory's and some intresting plec's . It's about 10minutes of of the motorway and about 20minutes away from Carlise maidenhead aquatics.

For reptiles there are a few places here - Viper and Vine in Prestwich, Cascade Water Gardens and a pet shop in Radcliffe that has a few reptiles too, believe it or not even P@H in Bolton now do reptiles!

BTW Pier once had an Ornate Bichir in that was 2ft long and as thick as my arm! It was a beauty - someone bought it as it wasn't there last time I went (was a while ago too) but it was the biggest bichir I've ever seen.

Called pier, no bichir's in at all and no shovel nose. the search go's on for me lol

Carlise have the sorubim lima in:)

try viper and vine - the owner is decent there, he can get hold of some pretty unusual stuff, here's the website

He may be able to get an ornate in for you, possible a shovelnose too. Worth asking.

Oh cool that they have your fish :) - just googled it, that's one nice cat.

nope they dont, shame i dont have a tank big enough for: Marbled Clarias Catfish
£2.99 each / 2 for £5
how cheap are they!

They are so cute as well - about 3" long.

The perruno listed has sold - it was a beauty though - whiskers as long as it's body.

I think all perruno's look awsome:) I don;t know if catfish are your thing but the sorubim lima's at carlise are 8-9inch so a good size he has 3 in at the moment he said. doubt they'll want much as they're customers old fish
