Male zonatus top out way, way bigger than minnt's max size requirement.

If looking for a genuine 9-10" wet pet, I don't think you can get better than a male red or green sev (if looking for a more gentle, placid option), or a female red devil/midas or female flowerhorn (if looking for a more active, aggressive option).

Well things have moved on a step, going to pick up a 4ft bow front tank on saturday and comes with an ebjd and a synodontis angelicus. Are ebjd's classed as a pet cichlid? I know james loves his. The syno might have to go though as I have read they're pretty aggresive and won't tollerate any other bottom dwellers? The jd is about 8" and the syno 7"

Any potential tank mates?

tbf you can't really discount a zonata and then suggest either a RD or flowerhorn, IME they are one of the smaller viejas and generally don't end up too much more than 10"

Also...if you are looking for a big fish thats gentle and pretty, look at red spotted Severums

Big male gold Severums are nice to

thanks he was really mellow i rekon i could of put him with pretty much anything too big to eat . as for with an ebjd? no idea if that would work , dont know enough about jds

jade eyes with a sev? no problem agt all i had 2 sevs with my jade eyes , and never any bother
