72-gallon, What Do I Put In It?

how tall is the tank? angels need at least an 18" tall tank for proper growth i think.

but you could possibly keep a pair if the tank is tall enough and the tank doesn't have to many other fish.

the tank is 23 inches tall. do they need to eb in groups or could I simply have one?

well actually.. with out plants my goldfish tank gets ntrAtes up to 120+ in 7 days.. with them it never goes about 10ppm (and that is in the mornings)

if that were true we wouldnt all buy filters, wed jus plant up our tanks.

EDIT - wait, see this is what i dont get, the science!

is there ammonia AND nitrates that the fish produce?

nah.. Ammonia... then bacteria make that into nitrItes then that turns into nitrAte... plants then take that ane make it into nitrogen gas (which lives the tank during areation... or part of itself...

and even if your tank was all planted up... you would still need a filter... the filter is a place for the bacteria to live.. it brings the water to the bact and not the other way around.. thus it can do the nirtogen cycle.. thus you NEED a filter..

anyway... all I know if with a planted tank you need to add nitrAtes because plants use it all up. :good:

What do blue rams need? they able to replace gouramin in thsis et up?? (can't spell)

Kind of looking at:
20 Petitella/Black Neons/glowlights/skirted tetras/ haha something small and shoaling..
6 cories
1 angle (black veil I think)

Then after it is up and running good.

Possibly Discus, If so 6.
Blue German rams (I am guessign th stockign should be 1 male two females)
Gouramis

i just have to add in a planted tank if it was say a very heavily planted tank not heavily stock say a shoal of some fish like neons in 30g.

the plants prefer to use ammonia than nitrate so they become a filter and ammonia is the only product ever in the tank which is used as it's made.

your stocking is ok if you don't have the discus IMO, discus need excellent water quality which is hard to keep with lot's of other fish.

blue rams should be kept as pairs 1m/1f.

well looks like I will be going the the angel fish rought.. angles are cichilds right? anything good with them besides blue rams.. what about those other rams?

oh.. so plants will destroy a good cycled filter huh? :/ or wil the filter bacteria culture adapted and be the converter at night and be domante during the day?

also, yeah discus.. really seems like I would need a RO device.. my water hardness is huge.. I stopped trying at 50 drops. :X

no plants do not destroy a filter as long as the tank is not say 5 neons in a 30g. the filter will deal with what plants can't.

yes angel are NW cichlids.

other rams? bolivan ram?

:good:

yeah that is them.. Bolivan..

Discus are also cichlids but alot pickier.. strange how they can life in a seemingly dirty river but not a clear tank.. darn tea...

anyway to tell angel sexes so I can get 2 boys two girls?

near impossible till you see which one lays the eggs from the pair if one forms.

your best bet is to get a group of young juvi angels and let them pair up and remove the one's that don't.

and there river is not really dirty. it would have hardly any ammoina nitrite etc. it's just murky.

that si what I mean by tea haha..

hey how about these longfin Serpae Tetra? They are like bettas that wont kill each other.. much..

bad for angles?
