72-gallon, What Do I Put In It?

why do they need such good water? or is it that they make it messy? :/

bad water conditions.

im crap at the science part of all this but we do water changes to keep certain chemicals that poison are fish building up in our tank.

most fish can take this altho in the long run its bead for them where as discus cant.

if you have other fish in with them the water conditions will get alot worse alot quicker and the discus wont be happy.

there also very slow movers so when the other fish are darting about it stresses them and they cant get to food.

mm.. well my experiance is that high K lights and lots of plants keep nitrAtes down.

Also, what if I had bottem feeders? :/

but basicly what youa re saying is.. no harlequins.. jsut Discus (maybe angel? are they shoalers or can they be solitary?)

other way round actually.

id lose the angels.

bottom feeders would be good, corys would suit best.

most people stock there tanks with discus, shoal of tetras like neons or cardinals (harlequins would probably work fine. i dont kno much about them, how big do they get?

then a nice shoal of say 6 corys for the bottom.

if you got 4 instead of 6 discus you could probably get a bristlenose plec in there too and that would be an awesome tank.

im gonna sell/ pass on my malawis so i can setup a tank basically jus like that.

Tell me if im wrong but...........
aren't discuses like 60 dollars
i dont know what the convertion is to uk money
but thats a lot of money for a fish

pretty goldfish are just as much...

anyway.. cories. 6.. 20 or so tetras.. 1 angel and 5 discus and some shrimp.. would that work? :/ I only want one angle because i am inlove with black lace/veil angels....

harlequin's would probably be fine, they're about the same size as neon's

do discus prefer a mature tank anyway, if it's your first foray into tropicals I'd be tempted to do something else with the tank for 6 months or so until the tanks mature and you've gained a bit of experience with tropicals then sell the existing fish and get your discus.

I will probably get angels haah. xD

Ya i know

I was just warning you :D
anyway.. I am guessing that nirtAtes are the thing waterchanges are needed for.. so plants should eat it no?

yea plants will absorb it but not on a noticeable scale.

i once read a thing where a woman had setup a tank that never needed to have water changes done because it was so heavily planted that the plants acted as the filtration.

she did only have about 5 neons in the tank tho and with all those discus and other fish youll need a pretty damn good filter.

well actually.. with out plants my goldfish tank gets ntrAtes up to 120+ in 7 days.. with them it never goes about 10ppm (and that is in the mornings)
