Yes.. anyway...

I have finally decided not to go with goldfish for this 72 gallon, I was at a lfs that had a large tropical tank and it was beautiful. 8) anyway it kind of inspired me.. 8)
30 tetra's (I am not sure which kind I want to get)
Cories.
Loaches.
Gouramis.
Angle fish.
Barbs.
Oddballs (little gourami fish they only looke dlike they got 1/2" long, barbs that had betta like fins)
Shrimp

anyway, this is pretty much the set up I want now.. but what numbers and types are good? suggestions as to what of species of these catagoies would fit a 72 bow front?

I saw your post in oddballs... If I were you, and didn't already have a good community tank, that's what I'd do. Your oddballs will be interesting for sure, but a big community like that would always be active. I'd get a big shoal of harlequin rasboras, a couple pairs of dwarf cichlids (rams, apistos, whatever you like), a couple cool smaller plecs, a ton of shrimp, a snail or two, and you'd still have room to get a few other things.

I'd love to have a 72 gallon, always wanted and eventually will have a large tank one day--hopefully a 90 gal. or a little larger. I think I'd put some clown loaches in it myself, but I'm partial to clowns.

ropefish are cool and pretty active
they are very active when they have other ropefish with them

but they can't see well and might be hard to feed if they have competition

I will probably go with more goldfish. :/ if I ever went tropical I would buy a 120 gallon and do tropicals in that probably. :/ I dunno though decision.

I would have a school of moustached danios ( ) with some nice plecs at the bottom

or

a group of the more boisterous goodeids
