6Ft+ Tank Brands

theres these people as well

http://www.aquariums.ltd.uk/

couldnt tell you what they are like , as i have never seen 1 of there tanks in the flesh , but they are sipposed to be good .

Yeah the hood is standard, it's a piano type lid which is pretty heavy. Me and hamfist converted ours though :good: Have a look through our journals to see examples of ND Aquatics tanks :)

Aquariums LTD make some nice tanks :good:

Edit: Didn't realise Mark had already suggested, but same from me to!

James.

I've decided on getting a 6x2x2ft size tank; my local fish store is Aquajardin and they have offered to have a tank custom made for me through another company they know well called Aqua Stands, but i cannot find any reviews for this companies work. I know Aquajardin is a very reputatble fish store, but does anyone know if this company called Aqua Stands is good? Thankyou for your time ^_^v !

Very nice size to upgrade to! Will be a fantastic tank I reckon!

James.

^ Thanks ^_^v

I think i might go for an Aquariums Ltd tank instead of the Aqua Stands one as the Aquariums Ltd site has a lot more tank stand style options (the Aqua Stands ones are nice but look a little bit dated)- Aquariums Ltd also supply lighting, filtration & heating for the tanks. I'm thinking about going for a white gloss Standard (or a Stadia) range tank stand/cabinet for the aquarium.

Stupid questions: On the hood options the site has both "Hood Open" & "Hood Closed"- what do these mean?

EDIT: Oh yeah, they sell filters- i would like to go for internal filters for the tank, but would you advise any of these 10 that they have on the website;

http://www.aquariums.ltd.uk/Accessory%20List%20by%20Product.asp?ProdGrp=27

(6x2x2 = 150 UK gallons or 680 litres- would sticking a few of these filters in do the job or are there better more powerful ones?)

Same goes for heating/lighting- sorry its been such a long time since i last bought a big tank and i've forgotten a lot of stuff on how to figure out the right filtration, heating, lighting etc for tanks :blush: !

Mmm this Pet shop imports tanks and stands and he used to to complete 6foot tanks for under £500, might be worth asking if he is getting any more tanks in soon.
Aquapets

Internal Filters then Have a Look Here, they tend to sell mutliples of 5 in internal power filters. again worth asking if they are getting any more in soon.

OK....Phew! Just had a VERY long phone conversation with the Aquariums Ltd.

Basically...This is what i am going for;

1. Tank: 72inch long by 24wide & 24inch high. Tank glass is going to Optiwhite glass on all 4 sides, normal glass on the base. White Gloss closed hood (hood with lid). Clear silicone.
2. Cabinet: Stadia Range cabinet in White Gloss, 72inch long by 24inch wide & 30inch high. Uphold will go all the way around. 4 doors on cabinet.
3. Lighting:Bright white lighting, 2 T8 lamps, 1500mm/5ft long 58 Watts each with double controller. (Do you think this will be good for most plants? Are there any plants i should avoid with this lighting?)
4. Heating:2x400 Watt heaters (they had either 300watt ones or 400watt ones, no 350watt ones- do you think this will be ok?)
5. Filtration: I've decided to go for an external cannister filter. They had an FX5 2300 liter per hour external filter, do you think this will filter the tank very well (i've got a common plec that poops a lot plus some fish which really enjoy a good current like some Pearl Danios & Yoyo loaches- most of my fish are medium current fish like the cherry barbs & swordtails)?

I haven't ordered this all just yet as i'm going to talk things over with a few people (namely my old neighbours who are currently looking after a lot of my old fish + plus my guy for opinions etc). If i order tomorrow the tank will take between 10-12weeks to arrive, so i will have to sort something out with moving one of my old Rio 400's over with as many fish as i can take (as i don't want to be driving down to Somerset every week to do water changes forever lol).

Looks like i'll be spending a lot on this tank, but i wanna get the best that i can get as i won't ever be buying a large tank again :good: !

^ No thankyou for the advice!

But i have to say, i literally just made the order :D ! It is quite pricey, but this is a seriously long term decision & Aquariums Ltd are apparently the best aquarium company out there and i've made this decision based on months of research (there were other aquarium companies out there, but the tanks either looked a bit old fashioned or were not widely known or recommended). Getting everything in one go will be the most convinient option (time is definitely a factor too lol) :good: .

you could of saved a lot of money by just getting tank/cabinet from them , then getting your equipment from somewhere like warehouse aquatics or eaby . but its your choice t the end of the day . enjoy your new tank and of course lots of pics!!!

Yes i will definitely take lots of pics of the tank when it arrives and as i set it up :good: ! It will probably not arrive until the beginning of march, but i can't wait already lol :hyper: ! So much time & planning, feels like actual proper progress is being made now :thumbs: !

Decor/look-wise, i'm basically thinking about doing;

Fine white or pale natural colour sand.
Lots plants with my 2 centre peice peices of driftwood (have 2 huge logs of the stuff, one is 3ft long while the other is 2.5ft long), with assorted smooth pebbles in various areas.

Fish-wise i have a large common pleco (plus 1 Para/LO75 pleco) that i'm keeping and a variety of small community fish (Pearl danios, harlequin tetras, cherrys barbs, golden barbs, swordtails, WCMM's, otos, corys, khuli loaches, yoyo loaches & a few clown loaches etc) which i will probably mostly just build their numbers on (particularly the swordtails, which i will buy more colourful ones as mine are largely pretty un-colourful, and more corys, otos & pearl danios etc) ^_^v .

So the tank is going to have a pretty bright natural feel to it and chilled out peaceful fish stocking with a small injection of colour via the swordtails :good: .

10-12 weeks!!!! i just got a 500litre from nd aquatics and it was ordered and delivered within 4 weeks, and they custom build aswell. did you look at their website as they are highly recommended on here.

Aquariums Ltd are recommended in PFK Magazine (plus people recommended it on here too), they do a huge variety of tanks. But ultimately the ND Aquatics tanks while nice, didn't have the particular look i wanted. Aquariums Ltd take a huge amount of care when it comes to making their tanks- it is a long time to wait but apparently the bad weather plus a new mention in PFK magazine has meant they are having to deal with a lot of orders right now.

This tank is really everything i wanted- gloss white large modern looking aquariums are not easy to come by plus i am really looking forward to having a tank made out of Optiwhite glass etc, so i'm happy to wait ^_^v .
