5 Gallon

Ok, so my dad found our old 5 gal tank, surprisingly with a working filter, but it didn't have some of hte parts so i bought a new one today at Meijer along with a hood that may not be a perfect fit...if it doesn't fit perfectly on the aquarium i dont think it'll be a huge prob, but anyway, if my platy gives birth as expected in the next week or so I want to move as many platies into this tank once they start to get big. How many could fit safely maybe 4 or 5? basically I guess my main plan is keep them in this tank until they get big, then hopefully by that point I will have a giant aquarium that will hold the platies and then the 5 gal would be like a nursery type tank or maybe for just small fish...for more on my crazy ideas, see my conversations with Natsuko on my lonely male platy post lol

For newborns...I'd say 7-10. The number keeps going down the bigger they get. When they are pretty big, I'd say 1-2 max.

Thanks as usual!! I swear I already replied to you, must have forgotten to hit post anyway i took a pic of the prego but she's so shy she swam away as soon as the flash went so it's not soo good...I think your prediction is right, so hopefully it'll be this week or early next week...i have one of those whisper 10 (?) filters in the tank....im tryin to decide if it's too strong and needs panty hose or somethin on it to stop fry from gettin sucked in, or if it is weak enough to not suck them up...I found a nice table thingy at the lfs today not exactly the vision i have but i may have to settle since i live in a condo and don't have a garage to build my crazy contraptions in

I did get it just kinda worried im going too much....anyway yeah I took pics right now but have to go to work and photobucket will take too long...ill post this afternoon...i think im banned from buying anymore fish from that store until i buy a huge tank though....

ahh its called blue? it looks more purple color to me, but either way yeah she's cute...and hopefully prego

Yep. It can look purplish sometimes, but mostly they look blue. It's hard to tell if she is pregnant. If she is, she's in the very early stages of it.

i think my other platy is still prego since she hasn't popped, but I think when you saw her pic it was another week or two, so I guess only a week has past, so maybe still too early for her too....my parents were like are you sure she's really pregnant?? You've been saying this for a while now LOL sigh, oh well, guess that's what I get for telling people right away that they will have fish to take care of once I get overloaded hahahaha...only crappy thing is my friend I used to work with at the school who took all the fish with her when we both quit there, was like I can't take any b/c my kissing fish killed it's mate then attempted to murder a frog, so he/she is in solitary which means any fry would be fish food again, i knew she'd be best to take care of a baby too, but oh well worse comes to worse I have a credit card and free time, i'll just by a huge tank and say who needs a coffee table in teh living room when you have a huge stand and fish tank in teh middle LOL *imagines self trying to watch LOST from the SOFA with this huge tank in teh way*

She's in with a male, right? In that case, she'll be pregnant. Some take longer then others, especially if they are older with bigger batches. Just be patient with her.

I hope you have a lot of money for that big tank! I was shopping out a 70g yesterday...$529 for the tank and the stand. Then you have to get lights, heaters, filter....etc.

You have a Kissing Gourami? Mine are all very sweet, you must have gotten an aggressive one. What size tank is it in?

OMG no i don't live with my parents, if that was the case i would be institutionalized a while ago! No, just when she looked prego and kept her off to the side (sunset) I warned all of my family if there are too many surviving fry for me to care for in my tanks, they would all be getting fish presents...at leas the ones i deemed responsible enough...The Blue Mickey Mouse High Fin was with other males and is with my sunset male, but i just hope she is prego with the pure blue ones b/c I really like the purple color although it would be an odd mix to have a high fin blue mickey mouse platy with a sunset wag tail platy....anyway, yeah im being patient, constantly changing the pregos water, and yes some of the tanks I looked at were several hundred at PetSmart yesterday... we'll see...kissing fish are with my friend from school she kept the fish b/c i was traumatized by dreams of dead hatchet fish, b/c one died and had no eyes, and other stuff like ich wipin out tanks, guppies eating babies, dying in traps etc.

Yeah, my parents would drive me nuts after i lived on my own in japan while studying there...anyway, yeah im hoping she's got some stored up so she can have a turn giving birth in sepa tank...i really think i need to play the lotto or something try to get more money for a huge tank One other funny thing, I lost a lot of neons and i have two that were from a second group i got from the store doing exchanges then decided not to add anymore due to they kept dying or getting attacked since one or two had some odd markings could be the CAE or a trip thru the filter...anyway, they play with the Zebra Dannios and one even swims with and swims like the Dannios do LOL I thought it was kinda funny and the Dannios have adopted him as their own and don't nip/chase him like they used to with the other neons...
