30 Litre Ideas Please

hi all,

i have my first tank which is/was a 30lt tank with small internal filter and heater sitting unused at present.i dont wish to put it in the loft as it will never get used and surely its not worth a lot on ebay so my question to all out there is what they would do with it??

i did think of using it for a puffer fish tank but ive read that il only be able to put one puffer in tank that small which seams bit crazy keeping a tank running for one fish! could i put say some tetra neons or similar in with a puffer ?

im liking the idea of the tank being in my kitchen as a small underworld.so any ideas please be most grateful.

The puffers will bully and most likely kill the neons. If you want a few fish what anout a mini community with
6 ember tetra or galaxy rasbora
6 pygmy corys
And a few cherry shrimp.

The only puffer I can think of that would be suitabl for a 30 litre is a single dwarf puffer. They are very nippy and aggressive and can easily hurt or kill fish much larger than them, which means they're not suitable for tank mates. I've seen 1 cm dwarf puffers shred 3 inch plecs.

Maybe try a mini-community with it? Stick with tiny gouramis, rasboras and tetras like sparkling gourami, green neon tetra or chili rasboras.

I've currently got a mini-commuity in a 35 litre Arc tank with 6 neon tetras, 4 tiny female bettas, 2 dwarf flag cichlids and a day's panchax. They are all tiny at the moment but will need to be moved to a 15-20 gallon as they grow. For a more long term community, stick with stuff that stays really tiny - under 1 inch for shoalers, max two inch for a slower, mid swimming fish, etc.

Could do a betta tank instead. Would look great heavily planted with a male betta in there.

scarlet badis are a nice little fish, you could have 1 male and 4 females in your tank. deck the tank out like a mini cichlid tank or tree roots

thanks for all your replys so far,im liking the scarlet badis sugestion only dont think ive ever seen them in my lfs! im off work tommorrow so im going to have a look.

m00ms thats why you go to your LFS and just get chatty and ask them the possibility of looking into it, if they say they can then great. Give them your number and ask them to kinly let you know so you can come down. Thats how i ge hold of certain fish if i know nowhere near me stock them

scarlet badis are labyrinth fish, like betts etc, they breath from the water's surface, they are also classed as nano fish
