I might be getting a 30 gal here pretty soon and I'm pretty clueless about what to stock it with. I really want goldfish, but i know those are out of the question if I don't want daily water changes..

The fish I'm interested in:

Golden Dojo loaches (in a species only tank maybe?)

Long Finned Rosy Barbs
Blood Finned Tetras
Coral Dwarf Platy
Sword tails
Pictus Catfish
Panda Cory
Angel Fish
Opaline Gourami

(or anything that even remotely resembles a goldfish.)

anything else you guys can suggest or veto would be extremely helpful. thanks. :)

I'll throw in my 2 cents for the fish that I know a little bit about.

Panda Cories - I was also interested in these for my 29 Gallon tank, however I've heard that cories in general can be a bit sensitive, specifically the panda cories, and aren't the best choice for a new tank.

Pictus Catfish - These guys can get to be a pretty good size and are very active. When I bought my 55 Gallon used, there were 3 of these guys in there. They were fun to watch, but I didn't feel that a 55 Gallon was going to be sufficient for them.

Angel Fish - The height of the tank needs to be at least 18"

Swordtails - These seem like cool fish and I was interested in them as well. I read that multiple males can be aggressive, though.

HTH!
