2F Tank Journal

happy birthday... im hoping for a 5f tank to go down stairs =D ...but any money i get i can put onto this one so yer =D

i was thinking of remakeing the substrate by : wash JI no3 mix with cat litter then mix with washed sand. think that would make a better substrate than just JI(not washed and cat litter)?

im unsure of what plants to put in it yet... some type of carpet i think maybe just 1 or 2 plants...

I just washed the cat litter (which took AGES btw  ), Didnt bother washing the Soil, as I will need to do frequent water changes anyway during the first few weeks. Rinsed the sand and let it dry too. This way it was easy to add the soil to the tank first, then the cat litter, then the sand and mix it good and propper, otherwise I'd imagine it to be quite a challenge to mix the soil when its wet. Just a suggestion mate. Started my journal to over in the Members Tanks Section with pics of how im doing so far with mine mate

Keep going mate :good:

ok heres a quick update

i filled it with the substrate capped it with sand heres a nice pic =]

thanks full of xmas moss now... i needed a holding tank for it =D

its my birthday today so some of the money iv got is going on a light unit =D then i'll swap the filter and heater over from my holding tank and take the clown loach and some of the not so nice looking guppies to my LFS (i got a £10 for there as well =D )

hopefully it will be finished being scaped with fish in by the end of the hols. or soon after =D

heres a quick photo with my xmas moss in and the tank half filled =]... im thinking of afew Amazon swords at the back to the left and then using Riccia and different types of moss to cover the foreground (all attached to stones/ wood)

Sounds good. Really liking these tanks with raised substrate on one side. Very effective indeed.

the raised bit sunk a little when i put the water in :( and im worried the sand will drift down... and the cat litter will explode in the tank.... *eek* afew plants should hold it in place a little though

When full and you start planting you can raise it back up. Once the roots start to get a hold it will hold the sand in place more.

true thanks minnnt (3 n's) i quite like it with the little slope

If you want to keep the slope in place read the start of 'Saintly's' journal.Wilko's used to sell this stuff cheap, or maybe poundland.

iv got some plastic edging i can cut up and stick in for support i might do that acutaly =D

and mum said she'd get my this light unit as an extra birthday present =D
