im thinking bout bringing the 5ft, 250G upstairs to my bedroom, will it be ok? or will it collaps my flooring??

reply asap

if u have it so it sits on the floor the opposite way to the floor boards run and if there are legs on the base or feet try and take them off so the weight is spread out even and there shouldnt be a problem

ive got to have the stand on it thou, and the stand doesnt have legs.

what sort of stand is it??if it is a wooden 1 then it might have a couple of feet on it just take them off so the weight is spread even across the floorboards if not then it should be fine anyway

it may well do, it depends on your house.. miss wiggle works for a structural engineering company ( im sure) and often advises on this kind of stuff, that is a heck of a lot of weight to have up there
send her a link to this post and she will be more than happy to help out where she can :)
shelagh xxxx

dont take the tank up till u have had decent advice :)

I have a 50gal upstairs on wooden floor boards and there is a visible bend in the ceiling in the lounge because of it.
It is the opposite way to the boards and against an exterior wall but it is still causing a sag, the house is only 40 years old.

I would suggest if you do go ahead with placing the tank upstairs you put a plastic sheet underneath your carpet where the tank will go, this means that when you do water changes etc. the innevitable spilling of water won't weaken the wooden boards as it would normally. Also, make sure the tank is placed against an exterior wall, preferably near a corner, this is where the floor is strongest.

I would guess that a 250 gallon tank's full ton of weight plus gravel and glass might be too much for many homes. There are likely commercial buildings designed for that much concentrated weight but not most homes.

Jeez, rather you then me. 250g is alot of water to come crashing down if it doesnt work.

What size tank is it? 5'x2'x2' is only 150 US Gallons? So it must be a fair size tank to hold 250 gallons?

Am I missing something?

well you have baths upstairs dont you?

1) The weight of the bath would of been taken into account when the propperty was constructed, structual modifications would of been made.

2) Your not in the bath, full of water 24/7, continual stress on the floor will cause significantly more damage.
