25 Gallon Planted Community Journey V2

I'm guessing this is too late now but if your fry got sucked into the filter intake you could probably try fishing it out of the filter and it might still be okay.  I pulled a 2 week old fry out of my filter sponge last week when I did maintenance, don't know how long it had been in there.  There was just a tiny orange tail sticking out of the coarse sponge and I thought it was dead but it wriggled free and swam off when I prodded it!

Hah! I did check the external filter but with no luck :(
As you may have seen from a topic I posted earlier, I actually lost one of the adult platys yesterday morning :(
Strange though, because all 7 babies were fine but an adult who I assume would have a stronger immune system died....

Thanks Kevin

For anyone that's interested, I'm having a few trouble's with nitrate among other issues, if you could check this thread out and give me some advice that would be great, cheers.

Okay guys sorry I haven't updated here in a little while, here is the lastest of what's going on.

I've got an order of 8 Black Widow Tetra to pick up on wednesday or thursday this week which is very exciting for me ! :D Also, I found a local breeder who is meeting me on saturday for a pretty great deal! 2 Peppermint Bristlenose for $20, not too bad at all. So by this time next week some great photos will be up!

As for the fry, here is a pic from a few days ago. This one I've names spot (for obvious reasons) and he/she is the only unique one (and therefore also the only named one).

Updated tank shot, really strong growth on the hygro and crypts but not seeing much in the val yet unfortunately. Should be ordering two anubias (one for the wood and one for that terracotta pot you guys might have seen from earlier on) from LiveFish.com in the next few days, looking forward to adding them. :)

So yeah that's all for now, but not for long! :D

Looks great!!! i wouldnt worry about the vallis,it took a while to bounce back when i first added it to my tank too.  It looks nice and green though, so i think it'll be fine :)

Many plants put effort into a root system early on and then grow after they are content with their roots.  As long as it remains green, you're fine.  If they start to 'melt' then remove the leaf that's melting, without disturbing the rest of the plant.  The melting won't do anything but foul the water - but disturbing the root system can make the plant more likely to continue melting.

Alright thanks guys, I'll continue to not move it at all and hopefully over the next few weeks it really starts to take off. Just on that thought, I was considering picking up another species of plant with a very different texture (green cabomba maybe) to put behind the val, and then keep the val trimmed down the around the level it is now, just thought it might add a bit more dimension to that back corner. :)

Yeah that's what I was thinking :) I'm ordering my anubias off LiveFish.com, and they have a pretty large plant range too, so is there any particular species any of you guys would suggest? I'm leaning to green cabomba but with this tank I really want to go further than I have before you know, try something different (I've used cabomba many times before). Suggest away! :)

I don't have exceptional wattage (1wpg) or C02... but what do you guys think of Rotala Wallichii for that corner? I've just been researching about it and read on one site that it needs co2, high light and consistent nitrates to actually produce the red/pink colour... maybe it's not worth the risk :/

Hmm, I would suggest wisteria but I think it might need a bit more than 1wpg. Try ROTALA INDICA - ROTUNDIFOLIA, thats a good stem plant that doesn't require high wattage.

Hmmm looks nice, I'm thinking a really fine leafed plant would look the bet though as I want it to contrast the val and really stand out. What do you think of Myriophyllum simulans ?

0o0o yeah, I like that one a lot. There's a fine/long leaved rotala, but I can't think of the name. It has pinkish edges too but I'm pretty sure it needs higher than 1wpg.  I'm in the same boat as you, so I know how you feel. There are so many plants I would love to get but I'm on the lower end of the lighting scale... sigh.

Different plants may have different demands, but there's recent evidence that a lot of plants that were thought to need more light, actually just need more CO2 and nutritients to grow well. Also, wattage doesn't mean anything because for example 2x15 T5HO bulbs provide way more light than 1x36W T8 light for example.
