Update: today was my weekly water change and first since the fish were added, all went well but the water got cloudy after about 8 hours after I did the wc so I tested the water here's the results

PH: 8
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: trace
GH: 140
KH: 120

Everything seems fine, didn't really get a nitrate reading tho, weird. I added some API accu clear so hopfully tomorrow morning it will all be clear.

I have ordered a water level alarm and a vector 300 UV as I want to keep the water crystal clear and free of parasites.

I have noticed some of the saulosi flicking off the sand is this normal ? I only ask because when I used to keep discus this was a sign of a parasite infection.

Sounds good. Yes - the males should colour up nicely once the dominance/pecking order is sorted out.

My Soulosi flick whenever the fine sand gets stirred up and sticks to their slime coat. Have a look to see if there is any fine sand floating around in the water. This woulc set them off.

Also - with regards to cloudiness - are you sure it isnt just that the glass is dirty? (sounds daft but it can catch you out!)

Nope, glass was cleaned just before the water change and was spotless, the water was crystal clear the next morning so it might have just been a small bacterial bloom maybe ?

I have not noticed any small sand particals floating but maybe it's that, it was something I observered before the water change and I also noticed it a few days ago. I will keep an eye out tho next time I see one if them doing it.

tyre track eel in a Mbuna tank? Not seen that recommended before.

Track eels can grow up to 36" and reqiure a tank at least 500L. From what iv read I don't think they would do well in my setup, plus this tank is just for mbuna ;-)

Quick question: My saulosi are about 1.5" and I'm going to order 10 more that are 1" would it be ok to add 10 at once ? Also will they get picked on by the larger ones ?

10 more saulosi? No they will be fine, best to add in groups. Just remember to thin the males out if you have to many

How many males do I want for a group of 20?
I still don't know how many males I have at the moment lol

Also I will be adding 4 Flavus (1male, 3female)
