1St Water Test

OK DID A near 50 % water change today left it a hr or so and tested ammonia seems to be down to just above 1 but well under 2,so hopefully keep coming down now

Why are you doing a water change? Once the tank is dosed to 4-5ppm of ammonia your only responsibility at this stage is to test the water. The ammonia usually takes a couple of weeks before starting to drop. That informs you that the bacteria is starting to grow.
Just test every day for ammonia. Patience is your mantra.
Add ammonia until its back to 4-5ppm. If in doubt dose less and retest.

The only advice I can offer is to fully read and understand the advice you have been given so far, I get the feeling you are not listening or dont understand what you need to do to complete a fishless cycle.

Anyhow good luck because you are going to need it.

Ditto that! OP - Take a look at: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/113861-fishless-cycling/
I started my fishless cycle two weeks ago and I have read that page over a dozen times until I now fully understand it. I've followed those instructions to a T and it hasn't steered me wrong yet.
