Hi

I want to get a zebra catfish/plec. What they like. I have read they are ok?

Will it be ok in my tanks.

190 liters 40 ish gallons. small community tank - planted.

6 x guppys
1 angel fish
2 x cory - will be getting more next time i go to fish shop.
3xLoches kuli
1 x congo tetra
glowlights x 6 i think
danios - different type - 6 ish
platies - 7
3 x runny noes tetras
cardinal/neon tetra - not sure - 6 ish
6 ish bloodfin tetra

i think thats it.

If you mean true Zebra Plecs - they are very expensive about £100 at least for a young one, they need high temperatures and a meaty diet. Not really a fish I would put in a community tank to be honest but there are other similar patterned plecs just not with the striking black and white.

Also in general your stocking needs some work you have a lot of schooling fish that need to be in decent numbers.

Your stocking should look something like this

1 x Angel Fish
6 x Guppys
6 x Cory - all the same type
6 x Loches Khuli
6 x Congo Tetra
6 x Glowlights
6 x Danios - all the same type not different species
7 x Platies
6 x Rummy Nose Tetras
6 x Cardinal or 6 x Neon Tetra (or both) - need to be the same species not a mix of the two
6 x Bloodfin Tetra

You need to keep all your shoaling fish in groups of at least 6 or keep less species in higher numbers - though saying that the list above is quite a heavy stock in that tank with over 50 fish in there with a few big ones like the congo tetras and the angelfish.

But that said so long as you keep up on weekly maintenance and waterchanges etc it should work out ok :)

you can pick up a very young zebra plec for about £50 from a breeder. there are some people on here that breed them :hey:
