Yep! My 1st fish was a goldfish 10 years ago, and its still alive in my neighbours pond! :D

I've had fish almost all my life. The farthest back I can remember is about 15 years ago +/- a year or two. We had neon tetras. They'd have to be all dead!!! That was a long time ago!!!!!!

my first fish was a comet goldfish

i was about 7, and kept it in a goldfish bowl, i did 100% water changes regulaly and didnt treat the water, i probs over fed too, it died within a few weeks lol

little kids shouldnt own fish imo

Yes and no... I had the usual beginner story. LFS sold me a 27 litre tank (little cube thing). Credit to them they told me to go away and set it up, using some bio stuff dripped in every day (now I know these things don't work to cycle). Anyhow when I went back they sold me in one go:

3 blue oranda
2 CAE (badged as "Algae eaters" as you'd expect)
4 zebra danios

Of that lot, one CAE lasted a few weeks then was either killed or died and eaten by the other CAE. The 3 oranda died off over a few months :( I liked those fish.

I still have the second CAE 2 1/2 years on, as well as the 4 danios. The CAE is the bane of my life  I need to re-home him. Needless to say I moved on to a larger tanks after a few more additions to the small tank went wrong too. I now have the 27litre tank with 2 pairs of gorgeous guppies which will be moving to a larger tank (hopefully today!) Then it will contain 2 pairs of tiny endlers which are in a mini tank at the moment. They're so small and cute!

Weii I suppose my first official fish was a goldfish I won at the fair when I was very young. It lived happily in my mum's baking bowl for a couple of weeks then we bought a proper bowl and moved it. It died the next day. Totally clueless.

Then over a year ago my husband brought in a 4' tank with fish which after some investigation I discovered to be a silver shark, a rainbow shark, an angel fish, a common plec, a pearl gourami, a black widow and another one I never found out. I think the rainbow shark was the first to go, he had an ulcer on his side when we got the tank, the random unknown went next after we cooked the tank, the silver shark succumbed to velvet, the black widow was rehomed (prob lucky for it), the angel died mysteriously when we went away for the weekend. The plec and the pearl gourami we lost in the last couple of months, they had a hard life.

The first fish I officially purchased were 4 golden barbs around a year ago, they're still going strong. Just a shame we didn't learn about tropical fish before getting teh tank.

My first fish was a mollie about 47 to 50 years ago. No it is no longer around. My first fish in my most recent set up is still alive and about 3 years old. I was out of the hobby while my kids were finishing school and getting out on their own.

My first fish was Mr Catticus the fabulous pictus
i got him for my 22nd bday (december just gone) from my girlfriend
sadly he died on easter sunday.
i was on my way to work in a nightclub at around 9pm and i noticed the water level had droppedby an inch,i checked everywhere and found a bit of water on the floor but no evidence of a leak.
i topped up the water and left a note for my housemate asking him 2 check my tank when he gets in as it was a huge event at work so i couldnt get the night off to sort things out.

at 3 am i got a call off my drunken (fresh from a night out) housemate telling me that the tank was empty exept for a few puddles so i told him 2 top it up and i ran home
i got home and put him in the smaller quarantine tank as it already had prepared water and a heater but sadly he passed away.

we buried him at 5am and toasted him with a bottle of southern comfort

i still dont know exactly what happened but as i have tested the tank repeatedly with no leakage i am guessing that the bubble tube acted as a syphon

hopefully i will have better luck with my next tank i am setting up
