Your Fav Sand

Have rio 180

I have black gravel at moment while going through fishless cycle. But looking at other people's tanks has got me keen for sand. Also I want corys so sand seems to be the way to go. My problem is that I don't do well with too many options.

If I go normal sand I'll select argus play sand, but I have a hankering for black sand. I have searched and this topic has come up before in one form or the other but still a bit unsure. What brand of sand would you recommend. My tank will have several plants.

unipac black sand is excellent i have it in both my tanks its great stuff it doesnt compact like play sand

I actually use average black petco brand sand. It's fine enough to be safe for bottom feeders and cichlid digging, but thick enough to keep air pockets from forming underneath it.

Black sand looks far better but can be expensive, play sand does look OK too though so it depends on your budget really.

I use black petco sand too! and its great,but kind of pricy. I only have it in a 60L which cost me maybe $10-12 US

The unipac, I have been eye balling. I can only get it online(aqua essentials) and I will be charged £30 for delivery alone. I am willing to suck it up if a firm favourite. Also looking at Tahitian moon sand.

I considered black sand but price swung it for me, one and a bit bags of Tesco play sand did my Rio 180 for a few quid. But if budget wasn't so much of an issue I'd go for black, I was going to get the unipac.

Unipac products are fantastic. I have Limpopo in mine, and i also have the Unipac fine gravel in another tank. Both excellent quality, but £30 for delivery is a rip off! I would use what ever black sand is available locally. If not then go with the play sand.

Budget should be an issue when you consider it would be £55+ for 25kg of Unipac and about £6 for 2 15kg bags of play sand from Argos etc.

its a shame your not mainland p&p is going to kill it for you unless you can source it locally or direct from unipac

Ask your lfs to order you the sand. Take a printout of the online price. Mine pricematch.

B n q sand looks much better than Argos... It's not as reflective IMO

hi i got my black sand

which is unipac from maiden head aquatics

i was lucky though as the tank was half price as display and the sand came free lol
but i did go buy another bag from them which i got for a very good price as the bag was split and a clear bag was over top of it

all in all i gotta say black as one of my other tank has natural and doesnt look half as nice but its down to ones taste

B&q. Uh oh more options LOL. £30 is a big ask just for delivery but some of the tanks, yours included minnnt look brilliant.
