I have a few:

When you size up your TV cabinet (if you have one), and figure a really BIG aquarium can go there!
When you would rather go to the petstore rather than the mall.
When you would rather clean your tank instead of take out the trash.
When you successfuly talk your friend into the fish keeping hobby becuase of how much you talk about your fish to them. (which I did


These two I came up with in an Asian store with fresh live fish:

1. When you look at the live fish in a specialty store and decide not to get one becuase the fish look pretty beat up (in comparison to), Going to the petstore looking for only the nicest looking freshwater or marine fish

2. When you see that nice Sturgeon fish swimming around and wonder if he would go good in a 50 Gallon tank. (of which, I did look and see a really nice Sturgeon compared to the Catfish which seem to all have some sort of scarring on their bodies)

when you get rid of the queen sized bed in the master bedroom, replace it with a daybed, and promptly set up a new tank in the brand new open space.

when your family sees furniture on your curb, and ask how the "Great tank shuffle" is coming along.

When "the great tank shuffle" doesnt mean moving fish from tank to tank, but completely breaking down each and every tank, and sliding them over a couple of inches each, and rejoicing when it results in a new open space.

when on your memorial day weekend birthday, the BBQ is really just a ruse to get the men over to help you move all those tanks over about 2 inches!

Thank you so much, everyone, for this thread - ones like this always make me feel a little better.
How about when you start talking to your fish 'You should never be afraid of food. Food is not your enemy.' 'No, not this end, the other one; I'm syphoning here now.' 'I'm sorry, you get bloodworms tomorrow, it's their turn today.' etc. - and justify it on the grounds that people talk to plants and they respond...
Or am I alone on that one?

Edit: Tolak has me beaten on both of his, though. I can see I've still got room to grow.

when the fish are the first things in the house to be fed 0- even before the kids , hubby and dog
when the only time you put petrol in the car is to travel 50 mile round trip to lfs

....... when u can succesfully convice a 4yr old that his prize collecton of wooden thomas the tank,tables,trains..etc..would be much safer in boxes under his bed than taking up all that space in the nasty very unsafe lounge.....put a tank there.. another yukky tank..ewwwwww

when as i did yesterday you do your water change and totally re-scape the tank while your at it then stand back and decide you dont like it and put it back exactly how it was then go online looking for the perfect piece of bogwood.

also in my case when you buy a tank as a present for the missus then totally take over get rid of it and get 1 4 times the size

when the missus says " i wish we never got that effing tank"
